Holmes fits best as a supportive unit. He has a fairly fast NP charge rate with his ability to absorb crit stars and generate them with his first and second ability. His first skill is a targeted NP seal which is not very common. His main draw is his NP, with the ability to reduce all enemies defense by 30%. The defense down works similarly to a 30% attack boost. He can allow for really cheesy one shot teams, but outside of that his usefulness isn't as other rulers such as Jeanne and Amakusa. The reason being is Jeanne's ability to work in stall teams, and Amakusa's ability to remove all enemy buffs.

Hope this helps!

Strongly disagree with what Leyl said.

I think Holmes is better than Amakusa by a long shot. And fundamentally different from Jeanne to really compare.

First off NP seal is a guaranteed hit. Stun on the other hand is not. And also only on servant.

Secondly, unless you run some form of passive star flow comp, which Amakusa does not really support because of his deck of BBAAQ-B, on demand large amount of stars facilitates burst turns, while passive 9 stars a turn at max skill Lv is easily dispersed and distributed down into nothing. Besides, Homles' deck would net you more stars than Amakusa.

Also, in terms of the utilities between NP, I would say Holmes' NP brings a lot more than Amakusa. On paper, "removing buff" sounds really nice. But ask yourself what exactly are the scenarios that you would want to mass cleanse? Removing pesky Invuln, Dodge, Def Up. All of them can be done with the party wide Invuln Pierce + Def Pierce. For 3 whole turns.

Basically, it can boil down to: the offensive-ness of Amakusa is wasted because of his somewhat low ATK and lack of steroid, as well neutral to all except BB. And if you want to bring him as a purely support unit, he can't really pull his own weight in fulfilling that role. And doesn't have the means to stick around such as heal or immunity. I would categorize him as one of those servants who wants to juggle too many balls but fails, leaving him middling at all fronts.

On the other hand, Holmes is a supportive unit and he excels in that job.
