I just rolled the Caster gacha in hopes of getting Waver or Tamamo, or any other gold-tier caster, and actually got Nitocris. I thought I was really lucky, but after checking her profile here it says that she's only recommended for farming since her Instant Death niche isn't very reliable.
I already have Irisviel maxxed except for skills, but I rarely use her because of her low attack stat. She's great for healing and all, but if she ends up dying it makes me feel like I could've put an offensive unit instead of her.
So my question is, should I invest in Nitocris and replace Irisviel in the future as a damage-dealing Caster? I can't always use my friends' Casters to deal damage since sometimes I need other classes that I lack, so this seems like a good opportunity.

As someone who has Nito, she isn’t really viable as a damage dealer and should really stick as a farming servant, both Irisviel and Nito are great investments none the less as Irisviel is one of the only healers and Nito is just great for NP spam which is perfect for clearing wave after wave.
I don't have Nito unfortunately (I rolled hard for her back when she was on rate up), but I can say that Iri is a pretty useless caster unless you're in a really tough and long battle. Even then I believe there are better healers available than her...
I think the problem with healers in this game is that most of the content is too easy once you've max leveled a couple of servants so you'll rarely need healing skills.
From what I've seen in my friends list Nito's damage output is pretty low, but as it is stated on the site she is still very useful for farming. That's what you do 90% of the time anyway.
Since Nito and Iri fill completely different roles I think it's not a waste to level them both.
tbh, for me "farming" = berserker. a friend with Raikou would be invaluable
and "damage dealing caster".. thats has some contradiction here, i think
long story short, Hans/Medea/Blavatsky is my choice
Farming servants tend to be heavily underrated but there is great value in being able to clear waves quickly and end a boring quest in 3-4 turns. Choco caster is one of the best at that with a skillset well suited to instagibbing mobs. Worth raising.
Also if you really want a dps for assassin quests, berserkers basically beat out almost all casters for pure damage. Xuanzang and illya nuke might be exceptions but barely. Nero caster will fix that tho
Like others have said, instant death is a tough mechanic to rely upon, as most enemy servants and gold mobs resist death easily. To have reasonable success, Nitocris usually needs her skills maxed out, at least then she maintains a level of consistency in taking out bronze and silver mobs.
Don't underestimate wave clearing servants like Nito though. It's really great to not have to endure a grindy fight with mobs before facing a boss.
Also yeah, damage-dealing casters is a contradiction. The most offense-oriented ones are Sanzang, Illya and Medea (and arguably, Charles Babbage), all of whom lose out to berserkers when it comes to the numbers game. Herc+Support Waver will get you through any assassin bosses. Don't worry too much about getting a damage dealing caster.
Actually, Nito's ranking in JP right now is one best SR due to the fact that her farming is excellent when you have her lv10 skill. Instant Death mechanism is never applicable for servants but mobs are okay, like some mobs in different classes have >50000 hp are decent conditions for Noto's NP farming. Even some AOE berserkers cannot deal such high hp mobs like Tamamo Cat, and Nito can shoot 2 NPs if you have NP charged CE which is another advantaged as farming.
And Instant Death niche is in fact the worst mechanism in FGO since the basic instance death rate of enemy servant is 0.1%. Just like Burning which enemy servants will do large damage to your but you won't do any damage to the them. I still remember the day when use free saber Shiki in her event but her NP do nothing to even accompanied with Assassin Shiki's skill, then almost all team-members were slashed out even my beloved Tamamo, making me throw my cellphone to the ground. Even some >150000 hp high ranked mob are not receommended for instant death
Just dont rely on Nito on boss fight, even against assassins. Nursery, Xuanzhang and Illya even Da Vinci Chan can do better job. However, you can invest Irish for tough Assassin boss fight, though she wont provide decent damaging, you can equip her with Prisma Cosmos and team with 1-2 Berserkers then let the Berserkers finish the job. Want you have to do is like I mentioned, have CE or good teammate to paired with Irish to remedy her poor NP gain.
From what everyone said I understand that both of them have their own roles. I'll invest in Nitocris and see how it is.
And what I meant by offensive Caster is any caster that deals more damage than Irisviel. And yeah, I use Heracles in every battle.
Also, I get the impression Medea is also a good investment. The normal 3☆ Medea, right? If so, why? Is she better at something than the rest?
It is because Medea has good Art niche that make her spam NP possible. And she has decent skill combo.
Yeah indeed her NP is not hitting hard. But in some cases she has very good compatibility with Caster supports that make her NP spam faster, then Medea can shoot her NPs as a machine gun. Like team-up with Tamamo and Waver, equipped with Formal Craft, utilizing OC effect and Art critical, you may find that Medea's offensive can be comparable with SSR and SR casters. Honest speaking she is reason I wont roll for Xuanzang, Illya and Da vinci as SSR offensive casters in my 1st account.
You can consider her NP as special Art card. In most cases most Assassins has many buffs like defense-up, evade, critical up. So Medea's NP can very help. After you invest her skills to high level, equipped with Black Grail she still can do some decent damage from her NP. Meanwhile her 3rd skill is also a golden one could be used for specific circumstances, like remove charm Waver or help Tamamo for more NP gain.
And she is so beautiful after Ascession!
