i got archer of shinjuku in a yolo 10 roll, but i already have a max ascended emiya whom im farming skill mats for and because hes my second ssr ever i decided to drop emiya to raise archer of shinjuku and reading from the servant pages gave me no clue whos better
so gameplay-wise, should i continue to invest in archer of shinjuku first or finish emiya first? (emiya's only at 2/4/5 with NP level 1)

Simple answer, they do 2 different things for the most part. Emiya is mostly crit based and you'll find him better for taking on waves of enemies. Moriarty is much harder to work around but he's still very useful given you have the proper team. He can spam his NP and like Emiya crit very hard. So really it's up to personal preference, if you don't have the team or CEs to support Moriarty I'd recommend using Emiya just for the sake of easier use.

Moriarty is a cool unit and he’s limited (congrats!) but he needs a buff. Badly.

As for teams, he’s tailor-made for Merlin. Arts cards for arts chains, Buster NP and high crit weight for Hero Creation, needs stars which Garden of Avalon conveniently provides, can stack charismas...

So Moriarty/Merlin/whatever. Hans and Tamamo and good picks. Tamamo boosts 3 of his facecards, gives him a heal, puts his battery on a 5-turn cooldown (maybe even a 4-turn cooldown), helps Merlin spam his NP and buffs, and charges at least a quarter of his gauge for free. Max out his battery and you can very realistically NP spam.

Someone who can stack defense debuffs down is a good partner too. Medb will steal your stars but after her SQ she and Moriarty can buff each other with their charismas and their decks are almost identical. Plus Medb can stack def down after her rank up. Moriarty really needs Tamamo, Merlin, or Prisma Cosmos to have good NP uptime, though. Lancer Liz could be a good partner if you don’t need arts chains for some reason.

Mash has a tendency to steal stars but she provides the def buffs Moriarty needs and a Mash-Merlin-Moriarty NP chain means you get a 30% attack boost, extra stars, and a 30-40% def drop BEFORE moriarty’s NP hits. Coupled with his 20% charisma, 20% NP strength up, Hero Creation, and Merlin’s Charisma, and that’s a lot of damage. It’s probably safer than using Tamamo vs. ST NPs if the enemy has a longish charge time. (Like against Quetz or something.)

to be fair i would still level moriarty.
if he is your second ssr you kind of have to use him. if like me you are a free to play you cant really drop any 5 star.
thet being said, i tryed him out for a couple of quest (luckly i have a couple of him np2 in my friend list) and i feel him less usefull then emiya.
thing is, moriarty need star to have above average np gen (without his 2, he is not thet good for me, considering he have 3 arts card), but emiya will easly outdamage a moriarty np1 with 1 buster crit.
not joking, my emiya easly do 120k without merlin with a buster crit...... well he dont outdamage a moriarty np with 1 card, but if you consider 3 crit card, easly.
plus he have decent utility for the team.

both require very good set up to work correctly, but i feel thet unless you want to focus only on np spam emiya will do better.

Level up both since they actually have good synergy together. Emiya can generate stars for Moriarty's 3rd skill and Moriarty can collect the stars UBW produces with his 1st skill. They're both Archers with 3 Arts cards but Emiya has an AoE NP while Moriarty's is ST. EMIYA's 2nd skill and Moriarty's 2nd/1st are your main priorities, they can then spam their NPs to no end.
Sure, Chloe is better than Moriarty at NP spam, but she can't collect the stars Emiya produces.
They both have different roles, but they're very powerful and will prove useful in the future.
