If you can have only one part 12: First Hassan (Gramps) vs Shuten Douji

*You can only have one Servant on your roster and never the other
*Decisions can’t be based on waifu/husbando material. It’s all about their skills, teamwork and all that
*Keep it friendly as usual
*I’ve seen some posters say they were late to the debate on some, but I don’t count the votes till the next one goes up. And if people jump in now they may look back at the old ones, so please feel free to add your vote whenever!

Previous days recaps:
Ozy edges out Quetz

Ok. So again I predict this will go to Gramps. But I want to see if people appreciate what Shuten can do for a team.

I have all the heavy hitting assassins (Jack/Gramps/Shuten/Cleopatra) and I always have Shuten as part of the team when I need assassins. So I am interested to see if anyone sides with Shuten on this one.

I don’t want to push her anymore lol, so I’ll stop here and just see if this is a blowout or if Shuten gets some love!!

KH is the better solo servant of the two...but there are better solo servants out there than him, and you normally have a team of 6.

Shuten has a guts, just like KH does. She has a team attack that's made better by her all-enemy defense down. Her charm works regardless of gender (when it works, that is). And her NP packs so, so many debuffs that I won't even list them all here. Her NP hits harder than expected, by the way, because she has the highest attack of all assassins and her first skill has a 3 (3!) Turn NP damage up. Since she can arts chain, she can very much fire off another one in those 3 turns.

Both are assassins, so straight damage is a little lower than other classes, and both can generate stars. But Shuten is a team player, and Hassan isn't.

And seriously, her NP packs 7 debuffs PLUS poison damage, and plays right into increasing the chance of her charm or defense down skill hitting.

Both of these Assassins are amazing picks, and although I'd go for Cleo and Jack in terms of choosing the best, these two are very close.

Shuten hits very hard for an Assassin, and even trumps Gramps' base attack stats by a very small amount. Her ability to collect stars and gain NP is rather high, making her flexible and effective. However, she specializes in the potential of her NP and her plethora of debuffs. She can cast Defense debuffs on both her NP and one of her skills, which is tied to a rare universal charm that works even on mobs, making her somewhat viable for stalling, and she can even hold her own with a Guts. Her damage buff has the niche of boosting her own NP, and with an AoE debuff of attack, crit chance, NP damage, defense, debuff resistance, poison DOT, and Skill Seal, Shuten has plenty of advantages to offer her team by greatly crippling her opposition. However, Assassin damage mitigation hinders her overall damage output and her attack buff is more selfish than anything else. On top of this, her charm is tied to RNG chance, with 60% chance of succeeding.

King Hassan, on the other hand, is an Assassin purely suited to deal damage and tank it head-on. His kit boasts a unique Buster Gorilla deck of triple Buster, which makes his ability to deal damage all the more higher. His Quick and Arts cards also gain a respectable amount of stars and NP, which make him a rather balanced fighter, and he is also unable to be affected by instant death, making him useful against servants that have this niche. His Guts is the best in the game, able to revive him to 3000 health at the minimum, and Protection of the Faith allows him to heal and boost his attack and defense to tank damage. His third skill boosts his Buster cards and decreases Death resistance for all enemies, increasing the effectiveness of his NP, which boasts a 100% death chance and can be chained with his Busters. However, he also possesses the unique chance to deal Death on his BASIC attacks, taking high-health opponents down instantly. Despite this, Instant Death has a pitifully low chance of succeeding, and nigh impossible against Servants. Furthermore, his chance of insta-killing on his basic attacks are incredibly low, and should never be relied upon as an active factor. As an Assassin, he also doesn't hit as hard as say, a Berserker, but should be considered when relying on endurance as a solo unit, where he truly shines as a self-sustaining beast.

Overall, both Assassins are incredible in my opinion, but I'd pick Drunken Oni over Gramps this time around due to her versatility and supportive capabilities. Her damage is slightly higher at the base, she has good uptime on NP and stars, and her NP as a wave of debuffs is more useful than an odd chance of instant death, and is additionally hard-hitting in its own right.

(also that voice makes me melt inside)

I’d probably go with Shuten. King Hassan is great at soloing and Staying alive but he doesn’t really help a team in anyway and whilst he could be used for straight up damage you normally wouldn’t use an assassin for that anyway. Shuten on the other hand has debuffs like crazy on her NP, a team attack buff and a chance to charm the other team and is generally more useful which is why I’d pick her.

I'd go with ASMR waifu on this one. Gramps kit is meant for a damage dealer, but his class typing and lack of star weight doesn't back that up very well. Also his triple buster deck means he can't NP gen very hard, which further hampers his damage potential. While Shuten also doesn't hit all that hard, she has a bunch of other benefits, buffing all allies attack (along with her own NP damage) and a defense down on skills, on top of her unwieldy number of debuffs on her NP. She provides a lot more to a potential team than Gramps does.

I have neither this time (unlike other match-ups) but I've tried both through friends.

King Hassan, is one of the few Buster Assassins, pretty much the only ST Buster Assassin if I'm not mistaken. His Instant Death niche is pretty useful against those large enemies who like to waste your HP on the way to the node boss (dragons, spriggans, giant ghosts, etc...) but, unfortunately, it falls short against bosses and Servants who have a much higher death resist compared to mobs. Still, high Battle Continuation is the best in the game (3k to 5k HP recovery) and his Protection of the Faith only adds to his durability and tankiness. Evening Bell makes increases his NP's already considerable death rate by a massive margin by lowering the enemy's death resist while also buffing Buster Cards on the off-chance that death doesn't hit. His passive ability to resist death and charm is quite useful as well against select Servants.

Unfortunately, while he does his job very well, he does not contribute much to team play as all his skills target himself or the enemy. He works best as a last man standing (but not as good as Cu, Herc or Cu Alter) where he can repeatedly attack on the off-chance that his passive will inflict death with his normal cards. He fits the stereotypical Assassin in that he could kill in a single hit (though with low odds) but not the FGO Assassin's role of star gen, which is difficult to do due to his BBBAQ deck.

Shuten, despite the highest base ATK stats of all Assassins (beating Jack and MHX by a few hundred points), best fits the role of hybrid Support/DPS. True, her attacks won't hit as hard as others due to her damage modifier and BAAQQ deck, but she plays the role of support well enough with a literal buffet of debuffs. Battle Continuation helps keep her in play just a bit longer. Aroma of Fruits has the unique advantage of being able to charm any opponent (though the fixed 60% chance makes it pretty iffy to use) and a guaranteed Def debuff on the enemy. Combined with Demonic Nature, which boosts her NP and the party's ATK for a full 3 turns, and the enemy is all but guaranteed to have a run of bad luck for the next 3 turns.

Her NP makes things worse for the enemy, lowering debuff resist, ATK, DEF, NP strength, and crit rate for three full turns, inflicting Skill Seal for one turn, and applying poison for 5 turns (which gets doubled in power with her NP Rank Up granting Toxic). While her debuffs are steady at a 10% decrease(2hich honestly isn't very high) the sheer number of them can lighten any party's load especially if you manage to stack them with repeated NPs.

So between a LMS in King Hassan, and a hybrid support in Shuten, I personally pick Shuten. King Hassan is great and all, but I can work better with Shut3n's versatility.

I'm definitely going for Shuten.
I got her off a yolo roll on Rashomon looking for CEs and she was my 2nd SSR, and back then I didn't even wanted her because I had Emiya from the Zero event (yes, that was a very noobie me). Once I got to use her over and over and over she just felt necessary for all the support she can bring to the team while also packing a punch herself while generating stars. Just imagine how my Shuten+Emiya+Shiki combo was at slaying dragons.

And not to mention how useful she was during long-term battles, leaving the opponent near useless for the amount of debuffs.

I feel Shuten is a more well-rounded servant whereas KH is mostly a solo survival guy.

I dont own either and rarely use either. Cool as gramps is shuten has my vote on this one. You will simply find more use for the plethora of debuffs both her np and skills are capable of dishing out compared to gramp's rather selfish kit and unreliable death chance (against bosses). You may argue that gramps death chance is high but that means very little in boss battles (where death will almost never work) and surely you would rather have an AoE servant vs an ST servant for farming. Gramps may be cool as fuck but shuten is simply more useful.

Of the two I own only King Hassan but my vote still goes to Shuten.
This is because I find the King - while incredibly cool - a rather plain servant with too straight-forward features and skills. Ignoring the instant death mechanic, which is a rather useless feature in the game, I really have no reason to use him over, let's say, my Cu Alter or any other ST berserker. King Hassan's playstyle is very similar to a berserker but with a little more durability. On the other hand he lacks the class advantage that Berserkers have against most classes. Then again, unkillable berserker options like Herc or Cu Alter - who on top of that can generate stars as well - exist, which makes Gramps even more pointless to use in battle.

On the other hand there are few strong AoE assassins around. While I consider Cleo superior to Shuten, I still think that the latter has very interesting skills and debuffs attached to her NP, which make her a decent choice for challenge quests.

I hv both and i would say Shuten hands down, she is much more versatile than Grandpa and her debuffs are very valuable in tough fights.
In fact, i think Gramps is very overated, maybe its just me, I even prefer Cheo over him in a buster team..
