What got you into fate?

I know its not a question about the game right now, but I'm just curious to know what other fans here experienced that they became interested in the fate franchise. For me, I started to be curious when the OG F/SN by DEEN was animated even though its mostly the underappreciated series of the animated fate saga, then got really hooked when F/Z was animated which spelled no going back for me. Would really love to know your thoughts on this.

Recommended by a friend back when the F/Z anime was first released. I kind of spoiled myself some details to the original VN because of that but it's alright because it's what got me into the Nasuverse.

Proceeded to play the original VN after that, then checked out Tsukihime and Kara no Kyoukai as well. After that pretty much cemented my love for the Nasuverse.

Got really excited a few years later when ufotable released UBW and after watching through them, pretty much just loved the franchise even more onwards.

Picked up Fate/Extra as well and then pretty much just tried to check out every tiny bit of Fate works and spinoffs. Carnival Phantasm is still one of my all time favorite things to come out of the franchise.

Held off FGO during its first JP release, but finally picked it up after hearing (belated) that it came out on NA and first started playing FGO during the first Valentines' event. After that FGO has been pretty much my main mobile game and probably one of the only few gacha mobile games to hold my attention in the long run. The mix of familiar and beloved characters in a large ever evolving narrative is a really great sense of adventure.

Really admire your dedication to the nasuverse works! Miss the days when I played F/LE and really loved the nasu perspective of Nero. Finished most of the servants with Emiya and Nero but sadly my brother broke my psp when I was with a NG with tama-bae. I really thank you for shedding some light on your experience and wish you with S rank luck on your gachas. :)

Thank you and likewise! There's just something really engaging and magical with the Nasuverse, particularly with Fate with the use of historical figures and then molding them into something unique yet familiar is great.

My PSP broke by itself overtime as well, but I'm glad emulators like PPSSPP are easily accessible nowadays whenever I feel like replaying F/LE and such.

Best of luck on your gacha rolls as well! :D

Mostly the concept of it. A story where people summon historical figures from many different legends like Gilgamesh, King Arthur or Heracles for a death battle is enough for me to be interested. (That's why i always got a little bit excited every time they add new Heroic Spirits to FGO)

Amen to that! This franchise, no matter the generation would constantly give you the many what ifs of every heroic spirit in a specific scenario and really depicts the essence of them being labeled as HEROIC SPIRITS. Thanks for sharing your reason dude. Wish you a great roll!!

Melty Blood introduced me to Tsukihime and Type Moon. Been a fan ever since.

Well, F/sn being considered one of the 'classic' VNs, I wanted to play the visual novel when I was still reading those. But despite trying it 5 or 7 times throughout the years, never got past the prologue. The pacing of the story is just SOOO... DAAARN... SLOOOOWwww...
So watched Deen's animation instead for the general idea of the story, then moved on the the next best thing, which is F/Zero.

Few months ago, I just finished Hunter x Hunter, and felt totally emptiness inside me. When I tried to find something new to watch, I've seen Saber on a random website, and thought: "I don't know who is that girl, but she appeared in a lot of pages in the recent years, so I think it's time to find out who the hell she is."

Then I found out that she is the main heroine in the Fate series, King Arthur, Holy Grail Wars, etc, and because I REALLY love historical stuffs (literally that was the only subject besides the literature, what I truly liked in school), I decided to watch the whole series from the start. After a few hours of thinking on how to start this thing (Zero or the DEEN's Fate, or the visual novel), I chose the release order of the animated series, and immediately watched the first 5-6 episodes of the DEEN's Fate. I've fallen love with this series.

After the DEEN-Fate, I watched the Zero, and holy crap, that was a fucking emotional roller coaster. Kerry became my favourite male protagonist ever (sorry, Guts from Berserk, you are awesome too...), and Iskandar is my favourite Servant ever. After the Zero, I watched the UBW series (I skipped the DEEN's movie for obvious reasons), and then the Apocrypha (I enjoyed it, even if it wasn't perfect), Heaven's Feel movie (I won't forgive that the ufotable left out the Illya scenes, I really loved them in the VN), and then the Kaleid (I really don't know what to think about this series...).

After I finished everything (okay, I still have to watch the Last Encore...), I got into the FGO too (I started at the Accel/Zero event). I played with a few gacha games before (Blazing, OPTC, Brave Souls, Azur Lane), so almost everything was familiar. My first character was Tamamo Cat from the starter pull, and I got my favourite nurse, Nightingale on my second day (I hasn't even got a single 5* since then fml...), from a random single pull (I use her in almost every team since that day).

On a lazy summer day, I decided to watch Kara no Kyoukai too, and damn, that was one of the best decision in my life. The whole story and the characters are extremely well written, and Shiki is my favourite female protagonist ever. I even decided to translate the whole series to my mother language (Hungarian). There is a translation already, but it isn't the best imo, so I think I'm gonna try to make something better. (I've already finished the Overlooking View, and now doing the Murder Speculation Part 1.)

After a while, I decided to rewatch every Fate series from the start, because why not, when suddenly my mother asked me what the hell am I watching, and then I told her the main story, the setting, etc. For some strange reason, she liked the concept, and wanted to watch this stuff with me (well, at least she doesn't hate anime...). We watched the Zero, UBW, and the Heaven's Feel, and I feel satisfied that I found something, what even my 48 years old mom likes.

So that's all. I don't think anyone is going to read the whole text, but this is my story...

No worries dude, read it all the way. Its actually nice to see that this community has a very friendly outlook not only on the game but as a whole as well outside of fate. Besides, knowing others humble beginnings with the franchise is more worthwhile than doing nothing until your AP is full. Praying to RNGesus for you man, those ssr servants would get tired of avoiding you eventually.

I got into FATE when i saw a clip on YouTube of Herc vs EMIYA FSN at einsburn castle. And it blew my mind. And then read FSN VN and finished all routes unlimited bladeworks and Heavens feel. Read their lore on the game. My favorite lore was Medea and FUCK Jason. And I fell in love with Medusa on Heavens feel route even though it is supposed to be Sakura's route i ended falling for Medusa instead.

Fate/Zero seemed like a cool anime during my middle school days, watched it and enjoyed everything about it immensely. Few years later, I find the Unlimited Blade Works adaption when it was finishing up season 2, that really got me hooked, but I had no idea of any of the other Fate series out there. Somehow stumble upon the opening for Grand Order, but wasn’t able to play because a) I didn’t know about emulators at the time and b) I wouldn’t even understand the story so what was the point. A couple years after that and ayyyy, Fate/GO is here and that’s what really got me into looking at more Fate stuff.

Fate/Zero for first and Fate/Apocrypha for favorite
Seeing Arthuria using Excalibur to destroy Holy grail and Kiritsugu vs Mapo tofu eater is really awesome. Kotomine one tough guy, defeated and rise to fight again.
I also watch the epicness of King Arthur Legend of the Sword last year.

Playing FGO while waiting for Fate/Apocrypha anime last year sure is double the fun.
Before i know fate series, i have watch some dragon movies like Beowulf and Ring of nibelung both Arthur Legend and Siegfried Legend is famous around the world.
Even some famous game like Dota 2 have similiar Hero like Siegfried, Davion the Dragon knight.

I don't know Fate idea putting multiple Invincible servant in the same universe like Fate/Apocrypha + Plot armor
If they don't clear some of their invincibility and power mostly the fight will be boring.
Really? Invincible dragon slayer capable of slay more than thousand of man also can obliterate dragon servant with almost no effort (base NP is A+ and against dragonkin is EX).

Invincible Lancer with sun in his body :( and the heat can melt down anyone near him also pack with EX rank NP).

Also Invincible rider his power second only to Hercules and wtf defeated only to his recklessnes.
Very high parameter servant with broken NP or ability often has zero luck/E-rank luck, seems pretty balanced
In the end all of them is dead, defeated or killed in absurd way, because their luck is sucks.

Double Ruler with 14 command spell, then what is master function in the holy grail war?
It's a Great holy grail war anyway.

I didn’t watch fs/n when it first came out but I did hear good things about the series so I eventually decided to watch it. It was alright to me but nothing really special. At the time I was just looking for more shows to watch so I decided to continue to fate zero which I really enjoyed and from then on I really liked the rest of the fate series (the main stories anyways). I also always thought the historical figures and their histories were cool concepts

Am I the only one who got into Fate after completing over 50 hours of the original FSN VN lol

Anyways, after reading the vn, I did the following in order:

1. Watch Fate Zero
2. Play Fate Extra
3. Watch Fate Aprocrypha
3. Watch Fateb Kaleid Liner
4. Play FGO
5. Watch(ing) a youtube playthrough of Fate Extra CCC

I'm planning to also play Fate Extella after finishing Fate Extra CCC.

I've played Tsukihime, Kagetsu Tohya, Melty Blood and watched Kara no Kyoukai. I'm also currently watching Canaan (though it isn't really part of the Nasuverse).

P.S The DEEN anime which adapts the Fate route is a pretty terrible adaptation imo. The ufotable anime which adapts the Unlimited Blade Works route is better but I still think Heavens Feel's the best route in the original VN.

I originally got into Fate through the DEEN adaptation years ago. It was one of the first anime I ever watched, and afterwards, when I was searching up whether it had any sequels, I found Fate/Hollow Ataraxia, Ubw and Heaven's Feel visual novels. I couldn't buy the visual novels and play through them myself, so I watched lp's of them whenever I had the time. I remember never really finishing ubw, though I later watched the anime.

Despite all this, I joined the Fate community in 2016, though I've been a fan of fate for a lot longer. It was really nice being able to talk to others about Fate and such.

As for fgo, I was first introduced to it when I saw an ad for the japanese version on youtube in the summer of 2015. I was interested but didn't want to play it at the moment, so I added it to my wishlist on the play store and just left it there for a couple of years

My friend tried to get me to watch the Studio Deen F/SN back in 2008. I absolutely hated it. It was the dumbest thing I had ever seen. I just couldn't stand Shiro and quit watching after 4 episodes or so. Then while I was travelling on business, I happen to catch the Japanese version of Fate Zero on TV. It was totally in the middle and I had no idea what was going on but I was intrigued by how nuanced the characters were compared to the old F/SN. Came back to the States and watched Fate Zero all the way through and it instantly became one of my most favorite shows I've ever seen. After that, I started watching the rest and it even got me invested enough to even go back and watch the old Deen F/SN. It was like I could see the franchise with new eyes.

I've been hooked on Fate and FGO since then.
