Rabbit's Reviews Daikokuten
NA Release Date: 04/19/2024
Introduction

Not too long after the Izumo no Okuni became our first-ever Quick Caster, Daikokuten follows up as our first AoE in the category. They make a good show of it, too, with a great kit overall. Daikokuten’s kit is extremely similar to Sei Shonagon’s, with two major differences: their loopage is a lot better, and their damage is a lot worse.

Sei is often overlooked, but she actually has one of the better skillsets on a Quick unit, largely held back by the fact that (especially with the current support portfolio) she can’t loop well outside of CQs. A Servant with similar strengths but better loopage sounds awesome. Unfortunately for Daikokuten, the damage difference is huge—as an uninterluded SR Caster with fairly standard damage buffs, Daikokuten deals no damage. Especially with Quick being disfavored in the current state of the game, there’s not much reason to invest in them currently. That said, damage is typically the easiest problem to solve: some combination of NP levels, grails, an interlude, and a better support could plausibly overcome that weakness and leave you with a solidly great unit.

Daikokuten isn’t amazing right now, but they have all the foundational pieces in place to be great… eventually. If you want a future-focused Quick option handy for when we inevitably get a new support, they’re not a bad pick.

Conclusion

There’s a lot to like here. If Daikokuten were, say, an Avenger—with stats to match—I’d be singing their praises right now. Being a Caster just really sets them back a ton. Aside from damage (and the lack of a great Quick support), though, there’s nothing to complain about. If you’re willing to go to the trouble to offset their damage problems, or if they get an Interlude and a shiny new support, they’ll be great. I’d say this is one to pass on unless you’re willing to really commit—but if you are willing to commit, you won’t be disappointed.
