How the heck does damage calculation work in FGO?

My level 98 Billy the Kid can't even one shot a level 8 Skeleton in Fuyuki. He has a level 74 Summertime Mistress CE equipped and is max fou'd, so his ATK is almost 12K.

If it was a Lancer Skeleton that'd be one thing, but it was an Assassin Skeleton with 3.7K HP. That should mean there was no class advantage or disadvantage at play, right? I even used a buster at the start of the chain, so his attack should have been boosted...

I don't regret grailing him or anything. He's still my favourite servant. I just don't understand how he can hit so poorly. What kinda hellish formula is at play here?

Archer damage modifier is 0.95

I usually use MLB Golden Sumo to mitigate reduced damage of my Archer. Sadly the bonus damage only 10%, but it's better than nothing.
Like your Billy i also Grail Robin Hood to lvl 90 and planned to 100 later.

Sure keep up the good work, for F2P gameplay quality Billy and Robin is very strong saber slayer.
Pretty much just like you i don't have too much difficulty clearing Nerofest using lowstar servant.
Summertime misstres pretty strong already mate,but if you have knight dignity CE use it for short fight. That's permanen 50 % crit damage and 202 % full Crit buff from Billy himself.

also nice waste on the billy lol I grailed karna ibaraki rama nero with the grails you spent on that little twink
tl dr; his attack stat is lame even at 98.my 100lvl karna has 14.100 atk without my 1.8k atk CE + 5% attack bonus from his class advantage with only 5 grails spent

It's not a waste. He's my favourite character. I grail characters I like, not characters that are powerful

You don't need Grailed SSRs/Srs for hard content. They're doing fine at their respective max level cap.

What about Honako Green to grail Billy to lv 100 and use 1-3 star to fight Boss in JP? Still a nice waste, right?

For me, I dont even bother to grail ANY SR except Saberlot and Herc (oh BTW they are on my 2nd and 3rd account). And I even have 5 SSR but only lv1-60 and always in 2nd inventory since I am not interest to invest them and build a team around them.
I also dont care about your Karna's lv100 attack status since I have lv 100 Jalter and Cu Alter
However, I never laugh at any FTP player and say any servants is trash, or make fun of "little twink" as you did.

Okay I know plenty more of these videos but I think that should prove a point. NEVER criticize someone because of who they choose to grail. Grails aren’t a waste unless the person who used them says they are, it isn’t about the stats of a servant in the end but about how you use them and their skill set when it comes to how “good” they are. Billy is very much capable of soloing content just as much as any SSR or SR if you bother to watch any of the links I sent you(not that I expect you to, but they’re there so you can’t act like I have no basis to put this statement off of). But on top of that, grails more often than not are kinda pointless for stats, especially on SSRs so it really is best to just used them on characters you like and use often for fun, which the original poster is clearly doing.

"The hellish formula" you're looking for. This formula is used on fgo wikia. Not sure what formula that gamepress used for the NP Chart.

I actually found this after I made my post, but I'm having trouble making sense of it.

I'd like to go through step by step and see where the biggest damage drop off is actually coming from. Cause like, even knowing about the archer multipliers and command card multipliers the damage feels way too low.

I dunno tho. I might just be underestimating the multipliers as they stack up ^^;

Haha. Same, it takes time to understand it, or you can find a spreadsheet that contains that formula, should be available on Reddit I think.

I think the most crucial part in the formula is "x 0.23" as most of the other factors will be close to 1.0 in most cases.
It basically means that your attack stat is divided 4 by default for every attack. If Billy has 12k attack he will deal about 3k damage, meaning he won't be able to one-shot the 3.6k skeleton lol.
