I have seen lv100 Kojirou, Cu Lancer, Billy the kid and Ushi. Not everyone is meta crazy, though it’s safe to say most of us would like a leeway to have an easier time at farming and challenge quests.

And just a side note: having top tier supports allows you more flexibility in choosing favourite dps, who might otherwise not be the best in a vaccuum.

It's not really like people search reasons to like them. It's quite the opposite.
As stated above: F/GO is a single player, which makes it rather indifferent, if some Servants are meta. People will use them, because they are useful and make farming and/or boss fights easier, which is a legit reason for wanting them.

But otherwise, I don't think people will like a servant more, because they are more useful and vice versa.
Take Iskandar for example. On Gamepress, he is tier 5 and more of a farming Servant. Still, he is one of the most popular Servant.
Same goes for Arturia.
On the other hand: Gilgamesh and Merlin are among the highest tiers and they are, for sure, extremely strong and useful. People use them, because of that sole reason. But a lot of players still don't like them character wise.

For your question: Is there any low tier and popular servant?
If it's about tier lists: Arturia, Iskandar, Shiki (Saber), Angra Mainyu, Hassan of the Serenity, Elisabeth Bathory, ....
There are a lot of low tier Servants that are popular, despite being low tier.

F/GO is like a Waifu/Husbando Simulator. People will still love their favorite Servants. But also use those, that make gameplay easier.
As for Dantes: Personally, I think he is a cool character. Knowing, that he will be really strong in about 1 year just makes him that much better.

It's funny that so many people are already preparing for a servant that is still 1.5 years away.. and if they don't manage to get their own Skadi they can forget about the meta.

Some peoples play this game or grail for their waifu/husbando, some play or grail for memes/jokes, some grail and play for gameplay. Meta players = players who play for gameplay and it's okay, because everyones have their own interest or hobbies.

After they achieve their waifu/husbandos, peoples usually cover their gameplay aspects and it's a nice and balanced things i guess. It's also not a bad things to do that.

Btw, i play for Memes and Waifu/Husbandos. OG Chu lvl 90 and Robin Hood lvl 94 here.

Game can be cleared with non-grailed 1-3*s, and there is no PvP/multiplayer function...

Aside from maybe more FP, you get nothing by "following the meta". Chloe and Ridertoki can still solo a lot of bosses in the next subespecies singularities.

As for me, arts crit all day; Casgil, Chloe, Saberlot and Nursery for the win.

A lot of people do take meta a bit too seriously your right. Personally, I haven't rolled for merlin (don't plan to) and i am not going to roll for skadi either.

I roll for who I want. I have mordred and Amakusa Shirou planned for rolling this year. They might not be "top tier" in meta, but i liked their characters in apocrypha so i'm rolling for them.

I don't completely eliminate it from consideration, as meta servants do tend to generate more in the way of Friend points via support. BUT, I do not base my rolling soley around "meta" servants. It's silly to do in a single player game imo.

Yeah a lot of people prefer to grail 3-5 stars. It makes sense statistically speaking and also they outnumber 1-2 stars by a LOT... I'm happy to be grailing Asterios and Leonidas but at the end of the day I am getting far less out of it than other players not to mention the level cap increases over time so full 4-5 star team may be possible in the future. I won't remove Asterios or Leonidas since I do like their personality/origin but it's coincidental I don't really like fan-service and most of my favorite servants lore and personality wise are low rarity. Tier-wise it doesn't really matter as long as you get them to work; I know my main team are tier 3 and lower aside from Memelin and Heracles. Dante is tier 5 in this websites tierlist so I am unsure if you are in the JP version with skadi or you are talking about rarity.

I didnt even know dantes existed on fgo before a month ago lol, I've found him cool af since i read the count of monte cristo novel years ago and didnt know he was meta since a week ago, honestly i would have rolled anyway. I see what your saying but i still dont see that many people liking him, most people praising him praise his farming potential on JP

Personally I think it’s a bit silly to roll for Dantès just because he’ll be “Meta” in 1.5 years. Because personally whilst I love FGO who knows if I’d even still be playing it in another 1.5 years, so trying to plan for that far down the road just doesn’t seem worth it. I’d rather just roll for characters I like or if I really cared about Meta I’d go for characters that are gonna always be top tier or close to it like Merlin, Waver, Gil etc... rather than a character that I’d have to wait 1.5 years before he’s at hits his peak. But that’s just my 2 cents. Not hating on Dantès or anything, as a character I don’t mind him and I’ve akways liked the Count of Monte Cristo story so if you actually really like the character then go for it, I just prefer to roll for Waifu’s more is all.
