I recently picked up the game and the furthest i was able to go in the even was the advanced missions,and as such i used them to farm currency,i already have all the dragon orbs and the silver bag materials,my question is is there anything else that i should pick up from the event?
It's difficult to answer that question without knowing which servants you have or any servants you want to get later on. Generally speaking most people either grab all the materials they need for the servants they're currently leveling or clear it out entirely so they don't run out of materials later. Either of these choices is fine.

Have you got the extra copies of Brave Elizabeth? It does require you to do the challenge quests and I don't know if you are in a position to be able to do them, but get them if you can, having a free NP5 servant is always good. Otherwise, just do as the other reply stated and try to get as many of the materials you need as you can. Many, many servants require hearts, so I recommend getting those if nothing else.
You should pick up mats for the servants you have. Also, you could farm for mana prisms with any extra bags you have left over. Getting the gold mats from shop is always nice to have.
Try to get Liz to NP5. After that I'd proceed with the story line where you can pick up free quartz for rolling new servants. I think farming event currency is not very efficient for a beginner who has trouble completing the high-level quests.
Try to complete the challenge quests using the bonus items and a strong friend's support.
well to me the standard layout is to get servant/copies/asc mats first, then exp/damage fou/hp fou, then mana prisms, then probly hearts.
