Attack / HP Growth
The eternally positive magical girl, Illyasviel von Einzbern, is here! A single-target damage dealing Caster Servant, Illya possesses the highest NP damage value of all Casters currently in the game, a niche further improved on by her future NP upgrade. While Caster damage to Assassins usually falls behind Berserkers, her rare role in the Caster class still means Illya is a desirable addition to a Master’s line-up compared to her competition.
However, outside of NP damage Illya is plagued by a plethora of problems. Foremost is her NP gain, which stands on the lower side even when her passive NP charge and NP gain buffs are taken into account, including the one granted by her future NP upgrade. Another problem is the ATK & DEF debuffs Illya gains after using her NP, which decreases her effectiveness for a while. Regardless, Illya is still a good Servant to have due to her single-target niche, but there are a lot of aspects in which she loses out compared to her competitors.
High NP Damage
With the aid of her Buster buffs, Illya has the highest NP damage among the currently available Casters. When self-buffed sShe deals around 33% more damage than Sanzangou when self-buffed, her primary competition. This advantage means that she is better suited for one-turn-kill strategies.
Possessing an Invincibility skill and a targetable heal with a chance-based Guts, Illya ranks among the more durable Casters. While her NP’s defense debuff is detrimental to this aspect, her third skill can potentially mitigate it and a 10% debuff is more than manageable.
Mediocre Overall Damage
Despite her rather impressive NP, Illya’s overall damage potential is somewhat questionable. This is primarily due to the 0.9x Caster-class modifier, which is made even worse by her lower ATK stat and her NP’s debuffs. When her triple Arts deck is considered as well, this means that a Berserker-class Servant is likely to beat her in terms of overall damage dealt, even against Assassins.
Mediocre NP Gain
Without any ranks in Territory Creation and below-average NP gain stats, Illya’s NP gain is sadly lacking. Even with the aid of her triple Arts deck, an NP charge from her passive and an NP gain buff, she still has trouble generating enough NP gauge. The fact that her primary competitors (Sanzangou and Medea) both have some way to rapidly boost their NP Gauge does her no favors either as Illya will lag behind their NP Spam in longer battles.
Unusual for a Caster-class Servant, Illya’s supporting capability is rather limited. While her third skill can be used for support, it is often used on Illya herself for the debuff immunity. Usually when it is used on an ally, it only provides additional survivability.
Illyasviel’s third skill is chance-based, which makes it rather unreliable. As the debuff immunity is generally used to avoid her NP’s relatively minor debuff, it is only a small annoyance in this case. However, failing to activate the Guts effect may result in the death of a party member.
Craft Essence Recommendation
The Black Grail / Heaven’s Feel
Making use of Illya’s high base NP damage, these CEs turn her into a total nuker aiming to decimate her enemies in a single hit. Additionally, the NP buff scales well against Illya’s own Buster buffs, which makes it more desirable compared to Buster buff CEs.
Golden Sumo: Boulder Tournament, Halloween Princess, Little Halloween Devil
Due to Illya lacking ways to gain NP quickly, starting NP CEs are recommended, especially when NP-charging support Servants are brought along. Hybrid CEs are generally recommended over pure starting NP CEs, as situations where Illya excels in rarely need her to unleash a first-turn NP.
Prisma Cosmos allows Illya to charge her NP faster, thereby dealing damage more consistently. Coupled with her passive skill, Prisma Cosmos gives her 11% free NP charge per turn, largely eliminating her NP gain problem.
Level Up Skill Recommendation
Cheerful Model Mystic Code A
Her most straightforward skill, the Buster up is clearly meant to maximize Illya’s NP damage. This is made even more important considering her slower NP gain, with which she cannot perform as many NPs.
Child of Nature B
Acting as Illya’s hard defensive measure as well as temporarily boosting her NP gain, leveling this skill increases the NP gain buff’s magnitude, as well as allowing it to be used more often with the cooldown reductions at skill levels 6 and 10.
Suspicious Medicine A
Providing a targetable heal and Guts, this skill’s debuff immunity effect allows Illya to avoid her NP’s demerit. However, it can be unreliable at times, as the Guts and Debuff Immunity effects are chance-based. Additionally, only the amount healed increases with every level. Due to these reasons, this skill should be leveled last.
