The Renaissance Man of Italy materializes in the form of what s/he deems as true beauty. The “Mona Lisa” finally moves beyond the role of friendly shopkeeper and joins the front line! Da Vinci is an Arts damage dealer with some built in survivability. She does very decent damage with her AoE NP, which ignores defense buffs, and ranks among the top of her class in AoE damage. Unfortunately, ranking high in damage across Caster Servants doesn’t necessarily mean her damage is very good (AoE damage from the Caster class is generally low).
She gains NP comfortably with her 3-Arts card deck, and in case that wasn’t enough, her second and third skills also provide NP gauge charge, so filling her gauge is rarely an issue for her.
Da Vinci's kit covers a variety of effects, although none of them are particularly strong. She has decent survivability in the form of guts, defense up, and HP per turn, with the added bonus of two-turn debuff immunity. On the offensive side she has a NP damage up, Invincibility piercing utility, and critical stars. Despite being a Renaissance (wo)man with a wealth of effects, none of them are particularly strong nor especially synergistic.
She is also a somewhat selfish Caster, with all her buffs being self-directed. She does not offer much in the way of support for her party members outside of the C. Stars from her third skill, and the ability to help make Arts chains happen. As a result, her synergy with other Servants is relatively poor.
Overall, she is a damage-focused AoE Arts Servant of the Caster class with great survivability and an interesting kit of abilities, but relatively poor contribution to the party in terms of support.
She will eventually gain an upgrade to her NP via Interlude that boosts its damage and its Crit Chance down debuff(ETA: 4/2020).
High NP Gain & Charge Skills
Three aspects contribute to her NP gain: 1) Her three Arts cards, which enable Arts chains, and evenly balanced hitcounts across her cards. 2) Her second skill, Golden Rule (Body) B, which charges her own NP gauge by 10% per turn for 3 turns. 3) Her third skill, Pioneer of the Stars EX, which charges her NP gauge by up to 50% at max level. With just her skills alone, she is able to get to 80% NP charge without any outside help.
Good Caster AoE Arts Damage
Among the Caster Servants, she ranks the highest in damage output from her AoE NP. Combined with her great NP charge skills, she’s a great contributor to farming.
Ignore Invincibility on Demand
Her third skill (NP charge) additionally grants her Ignore Invincibility for 3 turns, which allows you to get around Evade or Invincibility moves.
Her first skill grants her Guts (1 time, 3 turns) and a chance for a defense buff. She also can recover up to 1000 HP per turn and gain debuff immunity for multiple turns with her second skill. Her HP pool is also among the highest in the Caster class, so she can usually keep herself on the field for a decent amount of time.
Despite having the highest damage AoE NP in the Caster class, her damage is still somewhat lackluster due to her low attack rating, combined with the 0.9x multiplier associated with being the Caster class. As a damage dealer, she is best used in situations where she has class advantage.
Selfish Skill Kit
Perhaps as an offshoot of one of da Vinci’s famous quotes, “If you are alone you belong entirely to yourself. If you are accompanied by even one companion you belong only half to yourself…”, her kit does not pay much mind to the rest of the Servants you field with her. Because all of her buffs are self-targeted, she does not provide much utility to the team outside of Arts chain potential, Critical stars, and Enemy Critical Chance down.
Da Vinci is a capricious Servant: her first skill’s defense and NP damage buffs have an 85% chance of success, which means much of the time her ability to perform at her best is left up to chance.
OVERALL: Da Vinci benefits the most from craft essences with either a Starting NP gauge effect, or with an Arts Performance Up effect. Below are some examples of CEs that accomplish this, along with some other supplemental effects that are of secondary use.
Formal Craft / Projection: These give Arts performance buffs, which is the primary source of her damage.
Kaleidoscope / The Imaginary Element: Additional starting NP gauge (combined with her second and third skill) potentially allow her to NP once, and then quickly fire off an NP again with the help of her skills.a
Halloween Princess / Little Halloween Devil: Starting NP gauge combined with some boost to damage or NP gain make these a good CE of choice for more balanced bonuses.
- Divine Banquet / A Fox Night’s Dream: These boost her NP gain, which further enhances her decent NP gain. A Fox Night’s Dream comes with the added bonus of some C. Stars per turn.
- Prisma Cosmos: Combined with Golden Rule (Body), Prisma Cosmos is even better for passive NP gain, giving Da Vinci 18% free NP per turn. This allows for more reliable NP spam without relying on having her arts cards up.
Inherent Wisdom EX – This skill increases the (RNG 85% chance) defense / NP damage bonus values, and the HP recovered upon Guts activation. As this improves her overall performance as a damage dealer, this skill is worth leveling. If you must choose between this and Golden Rule (Body) B, since bulk of the buffs from this skill are RNG, this skill could probably be left for last.
Golden Rule (Body) B – Levels on this skill increase the amount of HP regeneration per turn up to 1000, which enhances her survivability. Reduced cooldown on this skill also lets you keep her HP/NP regeneration active more often, so this skill is also worth leveling with second priority.
Pioneer of the Stars EX – The NP charge gained from this skill increases per level, up to 50% at maximum. With a 50% NP charge skill, she can comfortably run any 50% starting NP craft essence and NP at will, so this skill is definitely worth leveling first.
