Attack / HP Growth
Legends speak of “God Spear Li”, a Chinese martial arts master who never had to strike the same opponent twice. His aptly named Noble Phantasm: Shen Qiang Wu Er Da roughly translates to “God Spear, No Second Strike”, and is a single-target damage Arts-type NP that additionally ignores defense buffs, inflicts defense down (20%) for 3 turns, and has a chance to inflict Death. This is the only damage-dealing single target Arts-type NP on a Lancer-class servant available to date.
Being a Lancer, he additionally benefits from the 105% base damage modifier associated with Lancer-class Servants. His attack stat at 9,653 maximum is slightly above average for his class. To further enhance his role in dealing damage, his third skill (Juezhao B) gives him up to +50% Arts performance and invulnerability pierce for 1 turn.
He also has some survivability built in with his second skill (Sphere Boundary B), a 1-turn evasion buff that additionally increases his star absorption. Synergizing with the star absorption granted by his second skill, his third skill increases his crit damage by up to +100% while also granting Ignore Evasion. This lends him some synergy with a crit-centered star generation team. Unfortunately, with his low NP generation (lowest in the Lancer class), he has some trouble filling his NP gauge, even though his NP generation is somewhat salvaged by his QQAAB deck (two Arts cards, uncommon for Lancer class which usually contains only a single Arts card). Overall, he is a strong single-target Servant for Arts / Crit-based teams with skills that support his role well.
Unique Arts-based Single Target Lancer
He synergizes well with an Arts-based support team as a single target damage dealer, and is the only Lancer class servant who would be able to fill this role. Additionally, he comes with a self-Arts performance buff of up to 50% in his third skill. Other Arts Lancers are either more support-oriented or are Fionn Mac Cumhaill (AoE, but unfortunately not very good at his job).
His second skill is a one-turn Evasion that comes with an added bonus of increased critical star absorption. This gives him an extra bit of survivability in being able to tank an enemy Servant’s NP turn without support.
Critical Star Absorption and Crit Damage
Within his skillset he has both a method of increasing his crit star absorption as well as capitalizing on his critical strikes with a skill that enhances his critical damage by up to 100%. This allows him to run with crit star generation Servants since he can capitalize on them to maximize crit damage potential.
Poor NP Generation
His base NP gain of 0.52% is the lowest of his class. This is slightly offset by his two-Arts QQAAB deck, which is uncommon for Lancers, along with his 3-hit Arts card. It may be better to run him with a support that can charge his NP gauge.
Buffs Last 1 Turn Only
Both his critical buff (+100% max) and his Arts performance buff (+50% max) last for a single turn, and go on a 6-turn cooldown at minimum. This means that while his damage output is potentially great, it will be in a single burst rather than consistently across turns with non-trivial downtime.
Craft Essence Recommendation
- Formal Craft / Projection / The Azure Black Keys: These strictly boost Arts performance, which indirectly enhances Li Shuwen’s NP gain off his Arts cards as well as his NP damage. Given this is Li Shuwen’s primary role, these choices work well with him.
- Halloween Princess: A combined 30%(50%) starting NP gauge and increased NP damage by 15%(20%) allows Li Shuwen greater NP burst damage potential.
- Another Ending: A combined +10%(+15%) Arts performance and +20%(+25%) Critical Hit Strength supplements both his role as an Arts-based damage dealer as well as his first two skills that support Critical damage.
Level Up Skill Recommendation
Chinese Martial Arts A++ – Li Shuwen’s first skill grants a hefty +100% crit damage for 1 turn at maximum level, as well as granting Ignore Evasion for 1 turn (6 turn cooldown at max). Enhancing this skill allows Li Shuwen to better take advantage of the star absorption granted by his second skill and enhances his damage output.
Sphere Boundary B – His second skill is great--self Evasion and increased critical star absorption for 1 turn. However, the evasion is just as effective at level 1 as it is at level 10. The star absorption boost is also already large at level 1 at 300% as well. The main reason to max this would be to reduce the cooldown (6 turns at max). However, in most cases, you would be using this to dodge an NP once, and against any Servant class enemy NPs will be ready in 5 turns at slowest, which is still faster than the max-level 6 turn cooldown. Maxing out the second skill is not practically useful unless you run him with NP gauge draining or skill cooldown reduction support.
Juezhao B – This skill is high priority as it directly boosts his NP damage with the added bonus of granting Ignore Invincibility for 1 turn (6 turn cooldown at max). Ignore Invincibility will pierce through BOTH Evasion and Invincibility.
