MMM - Godly Great Gallivates to Grift Gamer Girl Goop, Gibing Goodliness (Trinity Metaltronus Gacha 1)

The Modern Magus Magazine
I’ll be frank, I wasn’t anticipating walking straight into the last Ordeal Call chapter (excluding shenanigans) as part of Golden Week. The yearly collab’s nowhere in sight, in fact!
At least the Jeanne lovers are eating well, despite the fact this chapter appears to be walking us through Paradiso in preparation for divine judgment. Who knew the Ordeal Calls would be so literal on that whole “Trial for Humanity” part? I guess the Dante-aligned keywords kind of foreshadowed it a while back, though.

Metatron Jeanne
Another blonde haired white woman to the pile, even if Metatron Jeanne is a “Outside’s familiar, Inside’s different” type of deal. While (as far as my current knowledge goes) Virgil is yet to be seen, his spirit lives on as MetaJeanne manifests an iconic throne, literally the throne of God, inexplicably wherever she goes.
…And on her Second Ascension it’s a gamer chair. How is it that we got two blonde streamer-type characters in a single year? Compensating for the recent loss of Vtubers for various causes? Who knows.
Being an SSR Ruler, MetaJeanne is a return to Jeanne’s roots, after a long series of Alter forms and a stint with the dolphins, and this time she decided to literally root herself on the polar opposite end of the scale to her original self.
With the highest Attack of any Ruler by far, MetaJeanne defies our own concept of the Ruler class’s offensive potential, going leaps and bounds past Holmes’s Attack, all the while having a respectably average HP stat, though the 4th-worst for an SSR Ruler. This is due to her lore Parameters being pretty absurd, EX-rank Mana with a Magic-based Attack stat means she pushes the upper bounds of her class, and her A-rank Endurance similarly being high.
Paired with the Ruler class’s inherent 1.1x Attack modifier, this means MetaJeanne’s offense is pretty spectacular, but that’s not everything we have to cover.
MetaJeanne’s passive lineup is also pretty stacked - Her Angelic form of Independent Manifestation provides a notable Critical Damage boost and a nice Damage Cut that will reduce her damage intake even further when combined with Ruler defensive class advantage. Throne Creation is worthy of its lore, providing a powerful 5 Critical Stars and 5% Gauge Charge every turn, while Archangel Divine Core provides a solid boost to NP Damage and regular card damage at the cost of Divine trait weaknesses.
Her last passive is quite literally censored by the game itself, but provides a solid boost to Mental Debuff Resistance (effects like Terror or Charm) in exchange for a severe weakness to Sleep. Considering how rare the latter is, it’s a tradeoff worth taking in my book, even if it makes her one heck of a sleepy gal.
So how is Metatron Jeanne on the whole? Well on one hand, she’s holier than thou (literally), bearing the power of God and anime on her side (...literally), and you should be not afraid of that:
- +MetaJeanne manages to be an incredibly robust Servant on the whole, packing high durability from her class and kit both, as well as the ability to shrug off debuffs consistently while no-selling Buff Removal. Comboed with her capability to punch most bosses for high damage and her Ignore Invincible buff, she is a very reliable offensive option that will perform ably in almost every fight you throw her at.
- +On top of what MetaJeanne does for herself, she’s also surprisingly adept at team support, continually healing the team and providing both critical stars and NP gauge while she maintains her own offense. The healing on her NP especially shouldn’t remain under-appreciated, as by itself you have a way to mitigate the majority of minor damage coming toward a team, the silent killer of many a run in difficult quests.
However, Metatron Jeanne is also seriously sleeping on the job, and she’s gone and gotten banned from Twitch for a week for undisclosed reasons:
- -While MetaJeanne has more than enough gauge charge for it, her farming capability is ultimately mediocre, especially since her effective damage modifiers don’t usually come into play versus regular enemies. With little recourse to boost her damage output, she can’t realistically function as a universal farmer, limiting her capabilities (while still good) to difficult content. It’s hardly a death sentence, but it is a significant flaw compared to competing Rulers like Summer Melusine who can certainly manage both.
MetaJeanne ultimately manages to leverage some of the greatest strengths of the Ruler class, packing incredible durability and a solid offensive profile in high difficulty content, while her wide range of tools allow her to tackle many a gimmick in her way, befitting the broad capabilities of her class.
Where she meets a roadblock is essentially the point she’s not fighting Servants, or really just difficult fights in general. When she doesn’t have the room to utilize her solid Critical Damage output, the 15% NP gauge she earns each turn just from NP’ing that’s otherwise ignored in Koyanskaya farming, and her host of other tools, she ends up being a mediocre low-damage Buster farmer who really only shines when Oberon’s sitting beside her. Which is ironic given her vulnerability to sleep.
That said, MetaJeanne does have a lot of offensive power hidden in a time period during a battle that farming never reaches. On turn 5 or 6 or so depending on the Append skills or Mystic code in play, MetaJeanne can set up all of her allied Koyanskaya’s skills coming off cooldown, essentially accelerating the buff cycle for said team setup 2 turns ahead of where it would be for any other offensive Servant. That may sound like an odd thing to focus on, but offensive burst is the key component for most strategies in clearing difficult fights, as it’s what pushes you past gauge breaks and avoids having to endure the enemy’s attacks as much as possible - a good defense starts with a good offense, unless you’re really turtling.
My point is that compared to many other Buster damage dealers, MetaJeanne does significantly more damage in the first 5 turns since she gets the second buff cycle incredibly early. In some fights both Koyanskayas will die shortly after that point, so it lets her access a degree of power that wouldn’t otherwise be possible. Even with one Koyanskaya it still keeps her notably ahead of the curve, which pays off in having the right skills off cooldown in time down the line.
It’s a lot to say that MetaJeanne is even better at handling difficult content than she first appears, but that still isn’t enough to patch over the significant gap in her farming capabilities. She’s undoubtedly a solid offensive Ruler to have around, but she isn’t the virtuoso one would hope for out of an AOE Ruler. Even the creations of God have flaws, sadly. Rath™ Seal of Approval.
Ashoka the Great
For how Great this man is, it sure took some time for him to escape NPC jail. That’s what you get for disrespecting the Jedi Code, Snips. Shit, wrong one.
As a new entry to the SR Lancer lineup, Ashoka packs a solid stat distribution, with the tied 5th best Attack stat of his class and rarity, in exchange for the tied 7th worst HP. A pretty good offensive statline, even if he still pales compared to the peak of the class like Lancer Alter’s bases.
Ashoka’s passives are modest, but pretty good all the same. His high-ranking Magic Resistance provides solid resilience against any and all debuffs, while his Divinity provides the double edged sword of bonus chip and anti-Divine weaknesses. His last Passive, True Name Discernment, is traditionally an active skill, but instead provides Ashoka with a natural increased defense against Servant NP’s, reducing their damage by 10%. While that’s not likely to make the difference between life and death, it could save you once in a blue moon, so I can hardly say it’s bad, either.
So how will Ashoka go down in Chaldean history? Well for one thing, he’s got that wheel-a-turning, and nothing’s gonna stop it:
- +Ashoka’s overall offensive profile is staggering for an SR, even when compared to welfare Servants. He hits damage numbers worthy of a universal farmer without even being in one of the vaunted hyper-offensive classes like Berserker or Avenger (though Lancer is still pretty good), and does so with consistency and ramping damage when tackling a boss. For both farming and difficult content alike, his offensive power is not to be understated.
- +With all that going for him, Ashoka does also manage to spare some space for utility instead of damage. His ability to pervasively deny buffs from the enemy is particularly useful in difficult content, but also increasing the team’s resilience to some of the worst forms of misfortune the game can throw at you is also very handy. He even packs an offensive niche versus fairly common traits, meaning even if you have a Servant with similar offensive capabilities, Ashoka is likely to outstrip them against Evil or Demonic foes.
However, our ancient king here needs to learn that sharing is caring…how about he lets Jesus take the wheel once in a while?
- -Ashoka packs a few flaws, though nothing particularly crippling. His poor regular card NP gain means outside of the typical 3-turn buffs cycles a support composition provides, he might end up “stranded” for NP gauge and fail to keep up his powerful offense, unlike more independent damage dealers, and all the same Ashoka really lacks any form of “hard” defensive tools like Evasion or Guts, so he really has to ensure his allies are covering for that, something that others might not have to worry over.
My best way of describing Ashoka is that he’s designed in a specialized enough manner to hit well above his proverbial belt without focusing on a niche that might end up too redundant. The sheer amount of offensive buffs packed into his own kit is staggering, and when you throw him into the standard meta compositions for an Arts farmer, his capabilities only shine more.
While that might come at the cost of lacking the more “broad” capabilities of other Servants, like having unusual niche effects on their skills or a random defensive skill, I’d be happy to have a Servant with Ashoka’s level of devotion to simply hitting hard. It places him among some of the best farmers in the game, as well as a generally great offensive Servant to invest into.
There’s little more to delve into - the numbers simply don’t lie. Ashoka is fantastic. As a devoted and unashamed Karna fanboy, I’ll take this “Hindu History and Myth Lancer” victory as my own. Emphasis on the unashamed part, as you can see. Rath™ Seal of Approval, with a recommendation.
Mash Kyrielight (Paladin)
Well, this is a bit of an unusual section to write. First and foremost, Mashu’s upgrade from this story chapter is naturally a spoiler, but I decided to write about it unlike her Ortinax form back in LB1 or the minor upgrades said form got along the way because…well…Ortinax is bad.
I think everyone knew that, including Lasengle, which was why you could shift between Mashu’s original more supportively-leaned form and Ortinax outside of certain story fights, the bizarre loss of many of Mashu’s defensive and team support options in exchange for Buster crit-focused buffs that didn’t last long was simply too much of a loss.
But this new form is a literal paradigm shift, as it comes with a fundamental change to what Mashu is as a Servant - She becomes a 16-cost Servant like any other SSR, changes from Earth attribute to Man, and most importantly gets a colossal base stat boost, at 15528 HP and 10835 Attack.
And that’s not even covering the changes to her skill set. Since Mashu is still a free unit (at least, in real life money, not in deployment cost), I won’t be going in depth on this, but I will surmise the important qualities to her kit now, and the role she can play.
So needless to say, our eggplant has had enough of being a wallflower, and has chosen to ATTACK as well as protecc, and I’m all for it. She also comes with some upgraded passives that gives her a permanent 1000 damage cut, as well as a 5-time damage cut of the same value to the whole team while she’s on the lineup.
I don’t know what to say except the game really wants you to bring Mashu’s new form to difficult fights and the endgame of Cosmos in the Lostbelt, and this form is one hell of a flashy incentive to do so. Despite suddenly packing an intensely powerful new NP, she’s unlikely to be viable for farming purposes due to the same issue Aoko has - needing to blow through a whole NP before she can start actually doing the AOE, even if, much like Aoko, she packs a colossal gauge charger once her new NP is online.
So the bottom line is you can still use the original Mashu forms for her unique utility as a 0-cost team filler that lets you be more flexible with CE’s and the rarity of your team, but should it come down to it, Mashu is one of the strongest supports in the game, and one that can heel turn on her role and start blasting if the situation calls for it (well, you’re forced to do it for 3 turns, so get used to it). The increased deployment cost is well worth the benefits, even if it does mean you have to start comparing Mashu against the big names of the game like Castoria or Oberon instead of Hans Christian Andersen when considering team lineups. But believe me, Mashu will be holding hands and dancing round the Maypole with Koyanskaya and Oberon in the future, not fighting over it with them.
Outro
I have to say this MMM had me writing about things I wasn’t expecting. It’s rare that the SSR is more of a flop, the SR is a standout, and of all the changes brought in a story chapter, Mashu is coming in and making all the gacha Servants look like ripoffs.
She really is all you need, huh? Oof, that’s the wrong gacha game waifu creeping in for a moment.
That said, this isn’t the end of the OC4 new Servants given we haven’t received Definitely-Not-Lilith-Trust-Us-Ignore-The-Symbolism yet, and boy am I waiting with baited breath.
Not for horny reasons…I’m just a, uh. Kill la Kill fan! Hell yeah, scissor blades!
…Wait, that doesn’t help my case at all. Until next time for my continued defense!
