Noble Phantasm

“I'll see this through to the end. So count on your reliable Ciel-senpai!”
What a Mysterious Executioner, whoever could she be if you’ve never played Tsukihime?! From the depths of Type Moon lore comes one of the more durable solo servants in the history of FGO, a Single Target Buster Moon Cancer who thrives especially when she can guarantee her, and only her, cards. Masters will find so many possible uses for her, it’ll be hard not to roll for Ciel-senpai!
To start with, Ciel is a mana factory. With a 10% natural regeneration from Human Magical Energy Factory A and another 10% on every Buster card she uses in Phase Blade B+, plus 20% more from her Noble Phantasm Code: Original Sin A+, she can generate a full 40% charge per turn just by using her Noble Phantasm! Her defenses are incredible too, sporting both a massive defense up and heal on damage on Idea Blood B. And that’s not to talk about her Critical potential. But one of her most incredible niches come from Idea Blood’s ability to set all cards to her own, giving mass potential refunds every single turn in longer boss fights, or even just farming fights.
Ciel’s primary weakness comes from her damage. When the enemy is not Demonic she only has a small buff to her Buster and Arts, and an NP Damage up buff on her Noble Phantasm to increase her damage. Beyond that, she does not have ignore invincible, giving a hard counter to her abilities.
Ciel is an excellent choice for boss fights and hard-to-loop 90++ nodes. If a Master puts the investment into her, she will be certain to make it worth their while!
ℹ️ Gameplay Tips
Ciel’s cardlock can be used on another Servant. By casting Ciel’s third skill and swapping her out, the replacement Servant’s cards will be the only ones showing.
🟢 Strengths
NP Regen
Ciel has an incredible amount of NP regen capability despite having a Buster type Noble Phantasm. With her 1st and second skills active, she’s looking at 40% per turn with no external supports. With external supports such as Koyanskaya of Light giving her another 10% per Buster card, she could in theory generate 100% gauge from a Noble Phantasm - Buster - Buster chain. And this isn’t even touching on her 3rd skill’s 50% on-demand charge.
Defense
With her third skill boasting a 3-turn 3-time 100% defense up, Ciel can become a tank of a Servant. Even better, she regularly regenerates her HP every turn from her first skill, even more from her passive, and when her third skill is active she regenerates HP when hit.
Critical Damage
Ciel’s critical hits are incredible. Independent Action EX gives her a base 12% boost to Critical damage, but that pales in comparison to Phase Blade B+’s up to 100% Critical damage up boost for 3 turns. So long as she can get the stars (such as through Koyanskaya of Light’s second skill) she will be whalloping her enemies.
Card Lock
Ciel comes with the ability to force all cards to be her own for a turn. If a Master owns BB (Summer), they can then force this to be the case for a full 3 turns. And if a Master can somehow sacrifice their Servants with a big Gong sound, then Ciel effectively becomes a solo servant for the entire fight with massive defenses and healing. That Noble Phantasm - Buster - Buster chain becomes something she can do every single turn.
🔴 Weaknesses
Damage
Typical of Moon Cancers, her damage does not quite stand up to the other classes. She lacks the necessary buffs and skills to maximize her damage per turn. She is more of a slow and steady Servant meant more for boss fights and less of a quick-clear Servant.
No Ignore Invincibility
Ciel has a nice Sure Hit on her Noble Phantasm, but with so many bosses deploying some form of Invincibility, her lack of a pierce will hurt her.
Expensive
Ciel is a great Servant overall, but she benefits greatly from other expensive supports such as Koyanskaya of Light and BB Summer to reach her crazy peaks. Not only that, but most of her Append Skills greatly benefit her. Masters likely will need to spend more than just the quartz to get her to maximum potential.
Level Up Skill Recommendations
Surprisingly, Ciel’s skills are all fairly good even at level 1, with many of the biggest benefits static regardless of level. All 3 serve at some level to help out with her crazy regeneration, with her 1st and 3rd more being about defense and her 2nd more about offense. Her 3rd of course is her niche with the cardlock ability. Suggested leveling order is 3 -> 2 -> 1. In general, max is best solely because of cooldown reductions for a Solo Servant being critical.
- Human Magical Energy Factory A gives Ciel a heal, an NP gauge charge per turn, some level of debuff resistance, and buff removal resistance. This skill typically is cast on the first turn acting as a regular battery for her while the rest of her skills do the heavy lifting. The NP gauge is not tied to level so this can be leveled last. That said, it is a 5-turn effect on a 6-turn cooldown, so Masters generally want it at max level and with Append 5 unlocked to have it up continuously.
- Phase Blade B+ is Ciel’s primary steroid, giving a small 3-turn boost to her Arts and Buster cards. It also has two very powerful effects. First, it is her Crit steroid, giving 50% Crit damage if she is over 50% HP, and another 50% if at 100% HP. With her multiple healing abilities, she will often be at 100% for 3 turns. Second, it gives an effect on card effects, with Buster refunding 10% NP gauge, and Arts removing Guts (along with a small heal down on the enemy and a chance to reduce the enemy’s gauge). This skill does benefit from max level, but not as much as her other skills, so could in theory be left at level 9. Level this second.
- Idea Blood B is Ciel’s Niche, locking all cards to her own for the turn. Beyond that, it is also a 50% self-charge, and gives her a massive Defense up for 3 hits and also a heal-on-hit for the same duration! This is what turns her into a cockroach. Masters want to use this on turn one, and then either lock her cards with Summer BB, swap her out for another Servant with locked cards, or just roll with it. Level this first and to the max to take advantage of the full 50% charge.
🖼️ Craft Essence Recommendations
Ciel is unique as a damage dealer as mixed CEs or starting gauge CEs aren’t quite as effective. That said, Noble Phantasm Damage Up cards are still highly effective to boost her already small damage. She also benefits greatly from Star Generation Cards to better take advantage of her second skill. Lastly, Ignore Invincible cards can help cover all bosses.
- The Black Grail: There is no getting around it, NP damage is still king.
- A Fragment of 2030: Lacking her own star regeneration, Ciel can benefit from getting Stars from a CE.
- Pirates Party! / Frost Fighting Bear / Blue Illusion / Club Argonauts / Vengeance from the Underworld: By covering Ciel’s lack of Ignore Invincibility, and adding a bit extra damage, she can become unstoppable.
