MMM - Neglible Navyman Nailing the Nautical Know-how Navigatives Near Neverending Nag, I mean, No, Ah....

Intro
If there’s any upside to the end of FGO Arcade’s existence, it’s that with the end of its continued development, my burning envy for the Arcade-exclusive Servants only lessens as some of them gradually lose that status.
With that said, it’s pretty shocking it took this long for a figure like Noah to come to FGO, though given how much of a dangerous area delving into Judio-Christian mythological figures can be, perhaps it’s not so surprising.
And it’s an event that leads into raids, that leads into a Grand Duel…no prizes for guessing who the Rider Grand Duel will be, then?

Nemo / Noah
I wonder how the tale of Noah’s Ark in-universe for Fate consolidates with the development of human knowledge. After all, if it actually happened in the Age of Gods (the same Flood as the Utnapishtim one?), then did Noah actually have two of every surviving animal of that time on his boat? How did they survive through that evolutionary bottleneck?
I mean, the answer is probably “It’s the Age of the Gods, the power of Divinity overwrites the law of the world and science”, but regardless the idea of new “animals” popping up in Noah’s Ark recorded in the Throne of Heroes as Humanity acknowledges their existence to be part of the cultural legend a funny thing to conceptualize.
As a new SSR Rider, Noah joins with stats that match his smaller form in their mediocrity. With the tied 7th-best Attack stat and tied 2nd-worst HP stat for an SSR Rider, Noah sacrifices basically everything in exchange for an okay Attack stat. Better that than the other way round, I suppose. Offense is everything.
Noah at least has a solid package of passives to help compensate for his flaws. With high-ranking Riding and Magic Resistance he’s got pretty effective Quick cards and a solid amount of passive Debuff Resistance, while his EX Independent Action, and Divinity provide a nice boost to his offensive power, albeit at the cost of being vulnerable to anti-Divinity effectiveness.
Is Noah the chosen one of FGO? Well, there’s a two sides to every story, just like he has two of every animal - On one hand, he’s got a flood of popularity, leaves the ladies drenched, and, touch on wood, he’s good to go:
- +Noah is a pretty capable farmer, and that has perks both in actual farming content and out of it. With his superior refund he’s capable of working in very flexible setups, and either maximizing convenience or damage output depending on what’s needed. With Black Grail and Oberon battlesuit swap he can certainly reach universal farmer damage numbers, and with the relative frequency that his effective damage bonuses will come up in farming, he won’t be lacking for practical niches, either.
- +The half-Support meta continues to perpetuate itself with Noah. Providing significant damage boosts and gauge charge to his team, especially if they match his supported traits, Noah provides a notable boost in power to a team that features any number of viable Servants, whether it’s both Koyanskayas, Tiamat Archer, Miss Crane, Tamamo, Beni-Enma, the list goes on. Perhaps not the first people you think of for a supportive lineup, but they’re certainly not slackers, either. The healing, gauge charge, and offensive might he provides is nothing to ignore, especially since his own damage output benefits, too.
However, he’s also managed to spring a leak or two, and some animals have been thrown overboard…let’s say there’s two wolves inside of me, because they’re certainly not on the Ark:
- -Noah isn’t precisely overflowing with flaws, but he is burdened with a few. His regular card NP gain remains awful even with his Arts Up buffs, so if he’s cut off from looping his NP with buffs live, he may struggle to get his gauge back up, though his capabilities to chip into Arts chains often means that’s not a huge issue. Likewise, Noah’s capability for universal farming is great on paper, but in practice he can’t exercise the convenience of his farming setup in such cases as his damage output may be lacking without Oberon on battlesuit swap, and he can’t match the damage output of Servants that run incredibly tight, high-damage farming loops like Melusine. Even in terms of convenient farming loops, Noah gets strictly out-classed by Summer Ibuki and her Berserker class advantage / Earth-attribute effective damage among others.
Now, I’m not going to be Classist here, but a perpetual truth I’ve felt throughout all of FGO’s history comes to mind when assessing Noah’s kit right now - SSR Riders in FGO kind of suck.
Now to clarify, “Suck” doesn’t mean they’re all bad, but the general scale I assess SSR Riders with in general ranges from “Awful in the modern game” (Quetzalcoatl, Medb) to “Fairly good but not a superstar or anything” (Taigong Wang, Da Vinci Lily, Reines). The last name on that list might seem like she bucks the trend, and I’ll be fair, Reines is very strong simply by virtue of her gauge charge support, but the circumstances where bringing her is optimal is often limiting, simply because her offensive support is weaker than the specialized supports in the game, while her defensive support is much too specific to be used in every circumstance like Castoria, the Merlins, or Tiamat Archer.
The point is, there’s no true monster Support, or virtuoso damage dealer like Lancers have in Melusine, or Berserkers have in…half the class, and so on. You get the idea. Rider supportive capabilities have capped at “strong but situational”, and Rider offense tends to cap at “strong with class advantage, but lacking in universal farming”. Even recent buffs to pretty solid Servants like Odysseus don’t change that.
Noah is a Rider that changes that, in my book. Not only is his offense comparable to some of the best in other classes, he also packs enough niche damage boosts and team support tools to really feel like a house in the right difficult content. With a Black Grail on him and two Castorias by his side, you can probably blindly take him to most content and not worry about the specifics, and ultimately that’s what being a universal farmer should be.
And I’m not overlooking his difficult content performance, either. Noah can supply a whole team’s healing support if his allies are furry friends, simultaneously getting his allies NP gauges up quickly, and his regular card offense is superb, too. In such setups, the +100% Critical Damage Up boost he has access to combined with his Rider star weight and great star generation just spews out single-target damage to complement his NP. I’ve mentioned it a lot, but I do have to emphasise how great of a partner Tiamat Archer is to him - providing both a great source of Overcharge boost to improve his NP’s ramping damage, immense critical damage, while also netting Tiamat herself the perks of Noah’s supportive tools. Noah even covers the team healing niche that Tiamat lacks, it’s such a convenient combo.
While he can be dependent on the Servant lineup you have around to support Noah himself, and in turn be supported by him, Noah is simply a solid offensive powerhouse with great supportive capabilities packaged inside, and nowadays there’s not much better you can get without Class-changing him into a Berserker or Avenger. Nope, this time, the points are going straight to the Rider class. Rath™ Seal of Approval, with a recommendation.
Outro
If there’s anything I can be thankful for as a result of this event it’s…no stressful grinds. Okay, the raid is technically stressful for the few hours it lasts, but not having to worry over free quest grinds to clear out a shop is certainly nice.
…and this time, I’m not burning with anxiety to beat up the featured Servant’s face in the inevitable Grand Duel. The real issue, if anything, is that I don’t really have a Rider I’m burning to make a Grand…due to the exact issue I mention in Noah’s review. And I’m not pulling for him.
Eh, I’m sure you’ll figure it out, and I will, too. We simply have the great abyss of the unknown lying ahead of us to look forward to. Woo! Bet!
