“I’m not a fan of the ocean. Die, ocean!”

The Golden Hero Caenis rounds out Olympus’s cast of Servants as the only SR for the chapter. Caenis is a fairly standard AoE Buster Lancer with some decent critical-attack-focused tools. While Caenis is not especially remarkable as an AoE damage dealer, critical-focused strategies can lead to more effective performance against single targets.

Despite having an AoE NP, Caenis’s primary strength is dealing damage against a single target with normal attacks. Monstrous Strength and Pillaging Spear increase Caenis’s overall damage output, while Lapithae Caeneus increases Caenis’s critical attack damage output. The NP specifically also allows Caenis’s damage to scale over multiple turns, which is useful for dealing more damage against later bars in hard fights. Caenis also has a strong defensive tool in Poseidon's Blessing, which can make Caenis surprisingly bulky, especially against Archers.

While Caenis has the potential to deal strong damage over time, Caenis suffers from odd buff durations that make it difficult to stack damage buffs to maximum effectiveness. Caenis also relies on critical attacks for damage but has no way to gain access to critical stars until Pillaging Spear’s interlude. Furthermore, Caenis’s limited NP charge and odd buff types do not lead to effective farming performance.

Caenis is a largely unremarkable SR Buster Lancer. While Caenis’s skills and NP have enough value to make Caenis competitive in hard fights, plenty of other Servants can do similar things. As such, Caenis can be effective for masters who want to invest heavily, but otherwise is an easy Servant to skip.

🟢 Strengths

High Single-Target Damage

Lapithae Caeneus increases Caenis’s critical attack damage each time it is used. As such, if Caenis is able to loop this NP, Caenis can execute very powerful critical hits, dealing substantial damage against a single enemy.

Damage Scaling Potential

The damage buffs on Lapithae Caeneus last for 3 turns. As such, if Caenis’s skills are timed well, Caenis’s NP and card damage will both increase turn-over-turn, which can be useful for fights that start with low-HP enemies or break bars and end with high-HP enemies or bars.

Strong Defensive Tools

Pillaging Spear and Poseidon's Blessing both contribute to Caenis’s survivability and both have reasonable cooldown times. Especially with the help of support Servants, Caenis can easily survive through long fights.

🔴 Weaknesses

Awkward Buff Durations

Monstrous Strength’s attack buff only lasts for 2 turns, and Pillaging Spear’s lasts for 1 turn each time it activates. Most Servants output their damage over the course of three turns, so these shorter durations hurt Caenis’s ability to compete with more standard units.

Limited Critical Attack Access

Caenis needs critical attacks to capitalize on Lapithae Caeneus’s stacking critical attack damage buffs, but until getting an interlude, Caenis has no innate way to gain critical stars. Even with this skill buff, Caenis lacks star gather, making it difficult to crit reliably.

Weak Farming Performance

Pre-buff, Caenis has no NP charge skill, and post-buff, the skill is limited to 20% NP charge. This, paired with Caenis’s odd buff durations, limits Caenis’s ability to function effectively as a farming Servant.

Level Up Skill Recommendations

HighSkillIcon
Monstrous Strength B
Increase own ATK (2 turns).
LowSkillIcon
Pillaging Spear B
Apply Buff on attack: Increase own ATK (1 turn, Activates first) when normal attacking (3 times, 3 turns). Apply Debuff on attack: Decrease ATK by 10% (1 turn) for an enemy when normal attacking (3 times, 3 turns).
HighSkillIcon
Poseidon's Blessing A
Apply Guts to self (1 time, 3 turns). Apply Damage Cut to self (3 times, 3 turns).

Poseidon's Blessing is a powerful defensive skill on a reasonably short cooldown. Leveling this skill greatly increases Caenis’s durability, so it should be leveled first. Monstrous Strength is a standard damage boost and should be leveled second. Pillaging Spear is a weak skill before its buff, so it should be leveled last. Caenis will be more powerful with higher skill levels, but none of the skills need specific levels to function, so masters are free to level them as they have the needed materials.

  • Monstrous Strength increases Caenis’s overall damage, but the effect only lasts for two turns, making this less useful than normal skills of its type. It still scales well with levels, though, so Caenis will be meaningfully more powerful if this is leveled.
  • Pillaging Spear is an odd skill, temporarily increasing Caenis’s attack and decreasing enemy attack when Caenis attacks with normal cards. This means Caenis can maximize NP damage by using cards before an NP, which is unusual. At base, this is an underwhelming skill and can be leveled last, but once buffed it gains critical star generation and NP charge, at which point it should be leveled first for easier critical attack and NP access.
  • Poseidon's Blessing drastically reduces damage from three attacks and also gives Caenis a substantial guts effect. This skill scales well with levels and benefits from a shortened cooldown, so it is very much worth leveling, especially for Masters who do not expect to clear fights in the minimum possible number of turns.

🖼️ Craft Essence Recommendations

Buster Effectiveness Up craft essences are good for Caenis, as Caenis has little in-kit Buster up and Buster buffs increase both NP damage and critical attack damage. NP Damage Up and Critical Attack Damage Up craft essences can also be effective if Caenis will be focusing on one or the other. Starting NP Gauge craft essences can be helpful for letting Caenis gain access to Lapithae Caeneus quickly. Critical Star Generation craft essences can also be useful for helping Caenis gain regular access to critical attacks.

  • Limited/Zero Over / Victor of the Moon / Aerial Drive: These CEs all increase Buster card performance. Victor of the Moon gives less Buster up in exchange for also boosting crit damage, while Aerial Drive gives 50% starting NP gauge.
  • The Black Grail / Heaven’s Feel / Holy Night Supper: These CEs all increase NP damage, making them good picks for standard AoE fights where Caenis needs to maximize NP damage against all targets.
  • Bestia Del Sol / Hide Hunter / Knight’s Dignity:  These CEs increase critical attack damage, making them effective choices when Caenis is focusing on critical damage against a single enemy.
  • Kaleidoscope / The Imaginary Element: These CEs provide starting NP gauge, letting Caenis quickly use an NP for immediate access to its critical attack damage buff.
  • A Fragment of 2030 / His Rightful Place: These CEs provide stars each turn, helping to solve Caenis’s problem of limited critical attack access.

Character Info

A warrior and tyrant who appears in Greek mythology. She went on many adventures with the many heroes who comprised the Argonauts. According to myth, she was born female and was later turned into a man. Originally, she was a woman famed for her beauty, considered to be one of the most beautiful maidens in Thessaly. While she turned down many suitors, she one day found herself the object of Poseidon's desire...and so lost her chastity. Pleased with himself, the sea god promised to grant any wish she might have, to which Caenis replied: "Please take from me my womanhood, so that I may never be made to endure this again." And so, according to legend, Caenis was transformed into an invincible man. Whether this story holds any truth is unclear. One legend holds that after dying, Caenis became a golden-winged bird and vanished into the skies. Another claims the corpse left behind was found to be female. Either way... Caenis/Caeneus in their later went on to become a powerful warrior and a tyrannical ruler.

Profile 1

Height/Weight: 174cm, 59kg Origin: Greek Mythology Region: Europe Alignment: Neutral-Evil Gender: - Their male name from their past life was Caeneus, while Caenis is their former (female) name.

Profile 2

A soldier who harbors great anger within. They dislike the sea. They dislike the gods. Their anger is intense enough for an Avenger. Normally, they do not permit it to rise to the surface. In fact, they may even have a smile for you if they are in a good mood. Even if they are in a bad mood, they will respond should you address them, and perhaps engage in idle chitchat. They like sweets, and will quite enjoy the topic of snacks, should it come up. But be warned... Once their anger is truly unleashed, they are uncontrollable. Their fury is on par with a Berserker's, and may even result in their killing their own Master.

Profile 3

Manifested as a Servant with a female form. Their True Name is "Caenis," the name that was used through her life as a woman. It is said that Caenis turned into a bird with golden wings upon death. That legend is reflected in the Noble Phantasm Caenis uses when manifesting, though there is a possibility that this is because of the Noble Phantasm's intrinsic special ability to transform the user's body at will had gone berserk. This may also be why Caenis manifested as a woman, or why there are animalistic characteristics mixed in. As Caenis rises through Ascensions, the Core of the Sea God and Poseidon's Blessing Noble Phantasm (expressed as a skill in the game) become more pronounced, and the form they take bears more characteristics from their life. This means Caenis grows closer to the shining, incomparable being clad in majestic armor in the likeness of the great sea god Poseidon... ...as the invincible soldier. And as a result of receiving intense grace from Poseidon, their Spirit Origin is configured with a spiritual rank at a greatly elevated state...to the point that it does not fit in the Heroic Spirit container. Thus, the soldier Caenis manifests here as a Divine Spirit Servant.

Profile 4

Madness Enhancement: EX As a barbarous hero, Caenis possesses a special kind of Madness Enhancement in this manifestation. While retaining senses normally, the moment their anger exceeds a certain threshold, Caenis becomes a violent storm Lancer who is beyond communication or reason. Instead of having the potential to kill Master, Caenis simply WILL kill Master and cease manifesting. Core of the Sea God: B As a Heroic Spirit, Caenis would not under normal circumstances possess a Divine Core, but Poseidon offered their Spirit Origin a special grace. Therefore, when Caenis is summoned as a Servant, it is with a pseudo-Divine Core and elevated to the rank of Divine Spirit rather than Heroic Spirit. Poseidon's Blessing: A A perfect defense akin to immortality. This skill functions as a conceptual defense mechanism. Normally this would be a continuously active Noble Phantasm, but it is expressed as a skill in this game.

Profile 5

[Lapithae Caeneus] Rank: A NP Type: Anti-Army Range: 1-50 Maximum Targets: 100 Take Flight, My Great Golden Wings. An Anti-Army Noble Phantasm that sublimated from Caenis's very existence. After transforming into the golden-winged bird right before death as described in stories, Caenis rushes into the enemy camp to inflict damage from the skies. ◆ [Poseidon Maelstrom] Rank: EX NP Type: Anti-Fortress/Anti-Sea Range: 1-70 Maximum Targets: 600 The Sea God, Great Raging Tidal Wave. The target is crushed by an immense ocean current, regardless of whether they are at sea, on land, or in the air. This offensive Noble Phantasm is powerful enough on its own, but if near or on the water, its STR grows drastically. It is a partial reproduction of Poseidon's Authority over the ocean, since its full effect would have made it Anti-Nation or perhaps something even grander. It is not typically used in this game.

Profile 6

Unlocks after clearing Lostbelt No.5-2 Olympus + Bond Level 5 In Part 2, Caenis appears as Kirschtaria Wodime's Servant, serving in spite of the intense hatred for all things divine...not because of Kirschtaria's exceptional charisma, but because he explained the truth behind his plans to restructure the Age of Gods. To turn all humans into gods and restructure the Age of Gods...would mean that the gods from the previous ages, including the ancient Greek gods, would lose their position. This, of course, would include the object of Caenis's fury: Poseidon himself! "That's brilliant...that's the best payback ever!" Caenis wholeheartedly supported Wodime and his cause. "In that case, I will brandish all the protections and blessings of the sea god endowed upon the Noble Phantasm harbored within my body!"

Ascension 1
Well, this appearance is comfortable to me.
Once again, take good care of me.
Ascension 2
What? Did something happen?
Oh, Ascension. I guess my appearance doesn't change sometimes.
Ascension 3
Haha! This is it!
This is what the real Divine Spirit Caenis is all about! Take a look at this. It's the Poseidon Trident! It's real! An actualization of his protection that turned into a golden armor, plus the trident! Now that I have these, I'm the bona fide immortal Divine Spirit Caenis!
Ascension 4
I thought I told you I'm a Divine Spirit...
But hahaha...I can't believe you would elevate me up to this level. You sure are a strange one. At first, I thought you were just this idiot who liked to offer gifts...but stupidity can only take you so far before it just becomes impressive. But I love things like that! Keep doing what you do, Master!
Bond Level 1
Huh?
I told you I'm the Divine Spirit Caenis. Huh? The tyrant Caenis from legend was not a god? Not surprising. I may have called myself king, but I never declared myself a god before. So what happened, you ask? The answer's simple. By the way, got any booze or meat?
Bond Level 2
Ahhh. Booze from this age ain't bad.
So what were we talking about? Oh right. Something about being a Divine Spirit and whatnot. So it's actually simple. I received some sort of piece of shit protection from that sea bastard...y'know, Poseidon. The power of god. On top of that, he even gave me a piece of himself...the trident. His trident is pretty much the symbol of his power. And for me to be in possession of it... Well, you get the idea. It's annoying, but that means I'm essentially the god of the sea. Hahaha! That's how it is, right?
Bond Level 3
Something about Poseidon?
I'm not going to talk about him. Why would I need to talk about that piece of shit? Huh? He and I must have some sort of special relationship if I received his protection and trident? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. If you don't want me to kill you, shut your damn mouth.
Bond Level 4
A long, long time ago, I loved watching the sea.
But one day, at the shore... ...No, it's nothing. The woman from Thessaly named Caenis...died on that day. And that was when Caeneus, at times called a tyrant, at times a hero, was born. Yet how...and why...did I manifest under the name of Caenis? Why...?
Bond Level 5
Huh? I looked feminine? Me? There must be some mistake.
Hahahaha. You say the funniest shit. I dare you to try saying that again. I'll slit your throat before you get a word out. ...Hm? That wasn't a joke? I see. Well, yeah...it must be some holdover from Caenis. Yeah, I know my True Name is Caenis, but...sheesh, this is going to be annoying. What's with that face? Hey. I'm talking to you. You can pry or imagine as much as you want, but never give me your sympathy, Master. If someone close to me did that...I might accidentally kill them.
Conversation 1
I'm BORED.
Let's go somewhere, Master!
Conversation 2
The Servant and Master roles are nice and clear-cut.
Come on, try giving me an order. I'll get rid of anyone who's in the way.
Conversation 3
The Master and Servant relationship doesn't seem to click for me...
I feel like Masters and their Servant don't really interact like that. They're more like...you know... Anyway, I just have this feeling. I wonder why?
Conversation 3 (After 3rd Ascension)
A human using something that surpasses human capacity as a weapon...
I got ticked off hearing that at first...like, how dare they make themself so high and mighty. But then...I guess that depends on the human. If it's someone more idiotic than me, it might not be so bad to hang around them until the very end.
Conversation 4 (Jason, Medea (Lily))
...Oh, so that's what you guys are like here?
Conversation 5 (Medea)
Hey Medea!
Of course I recognize you right away. Huh? What's different about you? How the hell should I know!?
Conversation 6 (Heracles)
Well this is...something...
No, that look's not bad on you. Actually, I kind of like it.
Conversation 7 (Romulus)
Oh, I see. So you're Ares's kin. Ah! Very good, very good!
Conversation 8 (Altera, Attila the San(ta))
Why you... What do you want?
I don't know why, but I'm on edge... Who the hell are you?
Conversation 9 (Any Divine Servant)
I don't like gods.
Doesn't matter if they're old or new...they never do anything good. Hey Master, can I kill them?
Conversation 10 (Leonardo da Vinci)
...You voluntarily turned yourself female!?
What!? It doesn't matter what form...what matters is being free and feeling liberated? Huh. I-is that so? Chaldea's sure fulla weirdos.
Conversation 11 (Mordred, Mordred (Rider))
Hey Mordred!
Let's go to the simulator! Nah I have no business with sheltered guys!
Conversation 12 (Mandricardo)
Why're averting your eyes? I'm talking to you. Yeah you, bastard.
Huh? Indecent exposure? E-exposure's got nothing to do with it! I can wear whatever the hell I want because I'm immortal! By the way, you're a king too, right? Then you should carry yourself with more confidence. Ah, never mind. You're coming with me. We're gonna head to the simulator. I'm gonna beat you back into shape!
Conversation 13 (Sakata Kintoki, Sakata Kintoki (Rider))
Oh, Sakata Kintoki.
He's...not what he seems to be. I don't know what his lineage is, but I can tell he grew up pampered. I'm not letting him join the Chaldea delinquents club.
Conversation 14 (Saint Martha, Saint Martha (Ruler))
Oh crap, it's Martha!
That naggy woman's coming this way. She's such a pain in the ass in so many ways... I'm gonna make myself scarce!
Conversation 15 (Miyamoto Musashi, Miyamoto Musashi (Berserker), Clear Olympus)
Musashi?
I know her. She's a chatty, happy-go-lucky goof. I don't typically think highly of human swordsmen, but I can tell she's a real deal Heroic Spirit. Well, the fact that she and I get along means that she's a good-for-nothing too!
Likes
Birds are nice. I like them.
...No, dummy, I'm not talking about bird meat.
Dislikes
I don't really like the sea.
The sea should just die.
About the Holy Grail
The Holy Grail...
I don't really get it. Well, maybe it'd make a good goblet.
During an Event
Something fun's happening!
Hey, Master! This thing called an event...if you're gonna participate, you should give it your all!
Birthday
Birthday? Whose?
...Yours? Huh? ...Wh-why didn't you tell me this earlier? Unbelievable...then I need to prepare something for you...but I got nothing... Okay, I got it. I'll hang around you for the whole day today. While it may not be everything, I'll do what you tell me, to a point.
