Rabbit’s Reviews #455: Kingprotea (Alter) (5* Avenger)

uKingprotea Alter poses a specific question: just how powerful is card-rigging in a vacuum?

Card-rigging is the biggest reason Olga, Ciel, and (after her buff) Archer Ishtar are notable. They all have useful tools in their kits outside of card-rigging, and Olga especially is really specifically tailored to take advantage of her capacity for forcing cards, but without the ability to force their own cards, none of those Servants would be nearly as noteworthy. KP Alter takes that to an extreme: she has a really remarkably undertuned kit, with sub-par steroids across the board. One of those weak steroids is even a Mana Burst: it only lasts for one turn. There’s a lot to be disappointed about here.

...But KP Alter has card-rigging, and she’s an Avenger with three Buster cards. She is, in other words, a member of the strongest DPS archetype in the game—the worst of the best, in a sense. Obviously this means she has an obvious key drawback—if you’ve invested in any of the others, you have no use for her—but does that make her bad? Or, more accurately, how good is a Servant who has card-rigging but who doesn’t have a kit that particularly supports it?

At the risk of burying the lede, I think the best way to answer that question is to just dive into the review. Let’s see where this takes us, shall we?
