Jacques follows the tried-and-true baseline BBAAQ card deck, and continues that trend with his 0.43% base NP gain and 4-hit Arts cards - his base Arts gain of 1.72 is barely above average but comes at significant cost, with his 4-hit Quick being poor for NP gain, and his Extra card being in much the same boat. His capability for NP gain across all his cards is very reminiscent of a launch day Saber, so he at least fits in well.

Jacques performs more respectably for star generation, with his non-Buster cards providing a decent amount of stars with their higher hitcounts, but he’s nothing exceptional given his lack of Quick cards, and standard baseline stargen.

Skill 1

First for Jacques’ skill set is Vow of the Knightly Order, a Charisma-like skill that leans into the team support role. This skill provides a 20% Attack and Defense Up buff to the team for 3 turns, as well as a 2k HP Regen for the same duration, and even a 1-time Debuff Immunity buff on top.

While pretty easy to summarise, these buffs are all generally solid both for boosting the offense of Jacques and his team, and giving them some staying power in difficult content, where the ability to shrug off blows and debuffs will certainly come in handy.

Rather disappointingly, this skill is packing a longer 8-turn base cooldown relative to other Charisma-like skills, but it’s not a huge deal.

Skill 2

Next in the lineup is Encouraged Almsgiving, also known as tactical guilt-tripping, the ultimate skill required for the faithful of Jacques’ era to complete their pilgrimages.

As you might expect, this skill “gently suggests” the enemy donate their NP gauges to your team, draining them and providing a 10% gauge charge-per-turn buff to the team for 3 turns. On top of that, the team gets a 30% NP Strength Up buff for the same duration, and Jacques himself gets a 30% gauge charger.

The benefits of this skill are pretty spectacular all around. The gauge charge for both Jacques himself and his allies is substantial, totalling 120% gauge charge if the buffs run their full duration, and the damage boost naturally improves his own damage output and his allies’ should they join him in a NP chain. The whole-enemy gauge drain isn’t to be overlooked, either. While the nature of this skill means it won’t get much value on the first use on the first turn, when enemy NP gauges are usually empty, in drawn out difficult content being able to reliably stall incoming NP’s does come in handy.

Needless to say, the ability to grift for money is essentially a superpower, and Jacques manages it on a 8-turn base cooldown, putting it in line with his prior skill’s cooldown, and much stronger than plenty of similar cooldown skills.

Skill 3

Last but not least in Jacques’ skill selection is Guardian of Pilgrimage, an ally support skill with plenty of facets. The chosen ally gets a trio of respectable defensive buffs - a 1-time Guts buff, a 3-time 2k Damage Cut buff, and Buff Removal Immunity (at max level), all for a 3 turn duration. In combination with his defense buff the chosen target is likely to be taking 0 damage from regular attacks, while also having their buffs insulated from removal and their life guarded from sudden death of all forms. While said tools are usually more niche, being able to pick an ally and shelter their buffs on top of keeping them alive for at least a turn is very handy in dire circumstances.

On the flip side, Jacques gets a more standard dual-card buff to round out his offensive profile - 30% Arts and Buster Up for 3 turns improve his primary card types’ damage output and also improve his otherwise-poor NP gain. No matter what, this skill is providing some useful benefits, and at the same 8-turn base cooldown as the rest of his skills.

Pèlerinage du Temple is Jacques’s NP, a Buster AOE NP that notably lacks ominous and slightly sexual rituals to demonic deities. If that isn’t disappointing, I don’t know what is.

This NP does a bit of trickery to function, but it’s ultimately pretty straightforward - before dealing damage, Jacques gets a 10% NP Strength Up buff for 1 turn (scaling with Overcharge), as well as a buff that makes all his attacks apply Burn for 3 turns, on top of igniting himself alight as a minor drawback.

All those effects are in service to his attack, hitting every enemy with a Super-Effective multiplier against burn-afflicted foes, increasing his damage by 10% for each Burn stack, up to +100% at 10. This is probably a familiar effect to those playing the Global version right now, as it’s functionally the same as Marie Alter’s NP - apply DoT of choice, then get bonus damage based on having that DoT.

While this combo won’t result in much of a damage boost on the first NP, it will stack up pretty fast, especially if you give Jacques Burn-applying command codes to “cook” the enemy before he has his NP ready, and keep the number of Burn debuffs high after using it. In drawn out fights, which is shaping up to be Jacques’s specialty, the damage can get very impressive.

As a Buster Servant with a 30% gauge charger, Jacques is capable of the standard Koyanskaya + Oberon farming setup with a 50% gauge charge CE. In such a setup, he’s dishing out 62k damage neutral on wave 1, 79k on wave 2, and about 250k on wave 3. Depending on the enemy lineup he might struggle for Universal Farming on wave 2, but his damage output with Oberon buffs on wave 3 is more than sufficient. In general, he might be better suited to class advantage just to avoid missing the kill on tougher foes due to damage rolls.
