“Wooden horse, advance!”

Odysseus is a nice, if fairly standard, addition to the Servant roster. He mixes decent damage with good utility and great NP gain. While he’s not a standout unit in any particular field, he’s a strong generalist as AoE Arts Servants go. This makes him a strong overall Servant, especially for Masters who do not already have good AoE Arts options.

Odysseus is most notable for his NP looping potential. Between his strong NP gain and his AoE Noble Phantasm, Troia Híppos, Odysseus has an easy time using his NP multiple turns in a row. He also deals solid damage while he does this, thanks to Resourceful General’s Inspiration and Protection of the Messenger Deity providing further damage increases beyond what his NP offers. While serving as a damage-dealer, Odysseus also has nice utility features: he can help keep a fragile support safe with the taunt effect on Resourceful General’s Inspiration, and his NP removes defensive buffs before dealing damage.

While Odysseus is a strong all-around Servant, he does suffer from a lack of specialization. Most notably, his damage, while decent, does not compete with top-end Arts units, in part due to its lack of scaling across multiple turns. Additionally, he has generally low normal attack damage, as he tends to prefer teams that struggle to gain access to critical hits, and he has few buffs that apply to normal attacks. His NP charge skill also only reaches 30% charge at max level, which is a disadvantage relative to top-end SSR Arts Servants, who often have 50% charge skills.

Odysseus is a generically good AoE Arts unit. He has a number of nice tools, but he is noticeably weaker than his limited SSR competition. This is fairly normal for non-limited SSRs, and it makes Odysseus a good off-banner pull, even if he is not necessarily a great Servant to target actively.

🟢 Strengths

Strong NP Gain

Odysseus has very high Arts card NP gain for a Servant with a QQAAB deck. He also has good refund on his NP, as well as a 30% NP charge skill for emergencies. Especially with the help of Caster Altria, Odysseus can reliably loop his Noble Phantasm.

Persistent NP Damage Buffs

Odysseus has a good spread of damage buffs for his Noble Phantasm, most of which are available every time he uses his NP. This means his damage will be highly consistent while he is looping.

Useful Utility

Odysseus brings a set of skills that let him deal with various challenge quest gimmicks. He can make himself immune to buff removal, he can protect a specific ally, and he can remove enemy defensive buffs. Together, these make him a stable choice for hard fights, which helps to outweigh his middling damage output.

🔴 Weaknesses

Low NP Damage Ceiling

While Odysseus has good general damage buffs, the buff on his NP only lasts one turn, which means Odysseus’s damage does not increase as he loops his NP. This puts him at a disadvantage relative to many other Arts units, and it holds back his damage overall.

Low Normal Attack Damage

Odysseus’s normal attack boosts are limited to 30% total Arts and 20% total Quick up. Furthermore, Arts teams generally struggle to generate critical stars, and Odysseus does not help with that. Together, this means Odysseu’s normal attack damage output is likely to remain low.

Limited NP Charge Ability

Odysseus’s NP charge skill reaches 30% at level 10. This is still a useful skill, but many top-end Arts Servants have 50% NP charge skills, which lets them farm more difficult quests or make up for turns without good card draws. Odysseus is less flexible in this regard than much of his competition.

Level Up Skill Recommendations

LowSkillIcon
Aegis A
Apply Invincible to self (1 turn). Increase own Buff Removal Resist (1 turn). Increase own DEF (3 turns).

Devote Thyself to One Purpose (Love) is Odysseus’s NP charge skill, and as such it should be maxed first to ensure Odysseus can NP reliably when he needs the extra charge. Resourceful General’s Inspiration is Odysseus’s damage-boosting skill, so it should be leveled first. Aegis is not important to farming and gains somewhat less value from levels than the other skills, so it can be saved for last. It should be noted, though, that Odysseus will need Aegis maxed in order to rely on its buff removal resistance, so Masters planning to use Odysseus for hard fights should still level all three skills.

  • Resourceful General’s Inspiration provides a small, persistent damage buff to the whole team. In most cases, this means the most to Odysseus himself, although it may help supports generate more NP off their Arts and Quick cards. The skill also grants a 3-turn target focus effect to two of three party members, effectively protecting one team member from hits. Swapping out one of the focused Servants turns this into a proper 3-turn taunt on one Servant at a time, which is also a powerful effect for difficult fights.
  • Devote Thyself to One Purpose (Love) is an NP charge skill and will mostly be used for that purpose. It also makes Odysseus immune to charm, which is situationally helpful, and it draws critical stars to him if you happen to have generated any. The star gather effect is unlikely to be helpful in most Odysseus teams, as Arts teams struggle to generate critical stars, but with the help of a critical-focused support like Sherlock Holmes or Lanling, Odysseus may benefit from this as well.
  • Aegis is a defensive utility skill, protecting Odysseus from damage for a turn while also preventing his buffs from being removed. The skill leaves Odysseus with a small defense buff, too, which makes this skill a nice overall utility tool.

🖼️ Craft Essence Recommendations

Starting NP Gauge Craft Essences are often good for farming and for hard fights, especially in cases where Odysseus does not have multiple NP charge supports to rely on. NP Damage Up and Arts Up craft essences are also good for pushing Odysseus’s overall damage. Critical Star Generation Craft Essences can also be useful to help Odysseus crit, especially if Odysseus’s supports bring critical damage buffs.

  • Kaleidoscope / The Imaginary Element / Painting Summer: These CEs provide starting NP gauge in order to make it easier for Odysseus to loop. Painting Summer in particular increases Odysseus’s NP gain as well, which is a nice synergy.
  • The Black Grail / Heaven’s Feel / Holy Night Supper / Dive to Blue / Formal Craft: These CEs boost Odysseus’s damage output, which is useful for both farming and for challenge quests provided Odysseus has enough NP gain to loop.
  • A Fragment of 2030 / His Rightful Place / Meeting of the Heirs: These CEs provide stars each turn, which allow Odysseus to leverage his naturally high star weight and his star gather up skill to execute critical hits more reliably.

Character Info

The protagonist of Homer's famed epic "The Odyssey." His role in the Trojan War is recorded in "The Iliad." Odysseus was the Achaeans' greatest strategist during the Trojan War. Following the death of Achilles, it was Odysseus who came up with the idea for the Trojan Horse, which directly led to the fall of Troy. After the war, he sailed for home to return to his beloved Penelope. His journey was complicated by many obstacles, among which were: a vicious cyclops, Poseidon's curse, temptation at the hands of Circe the witch and Calypso the nymph, the enchanting song of the sirens, the dread monster Scylla, the wrath of the sun god Helios, and myriad other hardships. Eventually, though not without sacrifice, Odysseus overcame these many trials and made it home. "The weight and hardship of a single step forward... I understand that, to a degree."

Profile 1

Height/Weight: 179cm, 63kg Origin: Trojan War, "Iliad," "The Odyssey" Region: Europe Alignment: Neutral-Good Gender: Male Everybody falls for him. Everybody.

Profile 2

A man with an unwavering will, a hero of the Trojan War, and one of the greatest adventurers in Greek mythology. He went on numerous adventures and overcame countless adversaries, and there is no question of why his name became the basis for the word "odyssey." Even were he boasting, he could back up his claims. If he says he'll take down Troy, that is what he'll do. If he says he'll flee from a scene of carnage, that is what he'll do. If he says he'll defeat monsters and Demonic Beasts, that is what he'll do. And if he says he'll head home to reach his beloved Penelope, that is what he'll do...one day.

Profile 3

Grace of the Gods: B+ A skill that represents the grace received from the gods of Olympus. It can create numerous different effects. Because Athena's love was especially intense, Odysseus was given a special allowance to use the Noble Phantasm Aegis, the gods' own defense. It is not typically used as a skill in this game. Devote Thyself to One Purpose (Love): A A most focused state of mind...the source of his unwavering will. His devotion to his loving wife Penelope will never sway. Calypso the nymph, the witch Circe of Aeaea, the ephemeral Queen Nausicaa...all of these women fell for Odysseus. Even the blessings he received from Athena were likely an indication that she too had fallen for him. While Odysseus seemed to be a lady-killer, he himself was fully devoted to his love. It's just that during his long voyage back home to his Penelope, for some reason he kept encountering women. (At least that's how he sees it.)

Profile 4

[Aegis] Rank: A NP Type: Bounded Field Noble Phantasm Range: ― Maximum Target: 1 Sacred Boundary. A defensive armament created by the gods of Olympus. It is said to be armor or shield, and an extraordinary powerful bounded field, a conceptual defense mechanism of divine creation. However, Odysseus is able to don it as a physical armor, likely thanks to Athena's deep affection for him, granting him an invincible suit of armor made of divine steel, possessing conceptual defenses. A Noble Phantasm that is always active, it is expressed as a skill in this game.

Profile 5

[Troia Híppos] Rank: B++ NP Type: Anti-Nation Range: 2-80 Maximum Targets: 400 Great Horse of Demise. Near the end of the Trojan War, Odysseus arranged for a large wooden horse that would be brought within the impregnable walls of Troy, hiding numerous Greek soldiers (Achaeans) within this "offering." Ultimately, the Trojans brought their enemies inside, and were defeated by getting in the resulting ambush, leading to the Achaean army's victory. According to literature, it was said that Odysseus was among those inside the wooden horse, and that he fought alongside these warriors. The Noble Phantasm's wooden horse is in fact a giant mount covered in divine steel armor that suggests it has the blessings of the Aegis thanks to Athena. After its True Name is revealed, the wooden horse becomes a titanic being that annihilates everything around it in a demonstration of the fierceness of the Trojan War.

You've raised my Spirit Origin to its limit.
I must thank you for that.
Also...
I suppose I should give you my blessings for your journey ahead.
A great unexplored expanse surely awaits you in your coming adventures!
Bond Level 1
Master. How are you feeling?
Exhaustion is part of adventure.
Eat well and rest well.
That's also a part of your job...though saying such things makes me seem uptight.
But listen: try not to overdo it, okay?
Bond Level 2
I may have participated in the Trojan War, but Odysseus the hero's greatest ambition was simply to adventure.
Specifically, extremely difficult and dangerous ones.
I hear that the word "odyssey" means a long and often difficult journey in your time. Believe it or not, that term originates from my name, which means I'm your senior when it comes to adventuring.
So you may rely on me!
Bond Level 3
Everyone falls for me? Me!?
That's probably far from...
...Well, I guess it was true. But that was a long time ago.
Besides, that was when I finished fighting in the war and was trying to head back home to Penelope, so there was no way I was really aware women were falling for me...
I was too focused on my own desperation to get home.
And I also knew I hurt many because of it...
No, I'm just talking to myself now. Ignore me.
Bond Level 4
Come to think of it, there really wasn't much of a difference between war and my adventures.
I don't mean that they were both easy.
They were both tremendously difficult to overcome.
Like the impregnable Troy and the one-eyed giant cyclops... Both were the same to me: obstacles in my path to reuniting with my beloved Penelope.
I had no option but to push through all such hindrances. And I did.
That's all I can really say about that.
But to others, I guess my actions seemed somehow superhuman.
All I wanted to do was reach my loving wife, so I didn't really think I was doing anything special.
Bond Level 5
Master, is your journey to take back something precious...something that's near and dear to you that you've taken for granted, yet remains irreplaceable...?
I get it. I've taken the same path.
And so, I vow to you:
All of my magical energy...down to the very last fragment of a spiritron...will be dedicated to helping you move forward until the very end.
Don't forget that, Master.
Intelligence and perseverance. Rationality and determination.
Love and hope are all keys to victory!

A Holy Grail.
If it really is a wish-granting device, then...I wish to be reunited with Penelope.
...Or, that's what I might have said, but unfortunately I'm a Heroic Spirit. I am not the same Odysseus who once lived in glory, and that also goes for Penelope.
That's why my wish would be to...

It's a shop that only performs a special kind of exchange.

Well, you know...hmmm...I honestly don't know what I can do for you.

The Aeaean Spring Breeze - The Witch, Delightful Companions, and a New Adventure 7
A journey without a destination is nice as well.
Traveling around the world freely, going wherever the wind and your heart take you...
That's another kind of adventure.
Though I personally like trips where I have both purpose and destination.
The Aeaean Spring Breeze - The Witch, Delightful Companions, and a New Adventure 8
To properly use a compass, one must set a clear destination.
What will you find at the end of your travels?
Do you know what that will be?
What is it you are trying to reach?
The Aeaean Spring Breeze - The Witch, Delightful Companions, and a New Adventure 9
Humans all take their own journeys.
Life is a journey in itself, aimlessly taking you where it will.
While humans are all destined to arrive at the same end to their journey in death, they do not live simply to die.
Which means, humans journey purely for the act itself.
Someone told me something like that in the past...
Or at least I think there was someone...
Now, who was that...?
The Aeaean Spring Breeze - The Witch, Delightful Companions, and a New Adventure 10
Your journey...or rather your life, is yours alone.
But you are in no way alone.
Throughout your long voyage, you are bound to meet comrades and companions.
And even if some may only be with you for a brief moment, the time spent together is sure to be a truly singular foundation for you.
Never forget that.
You are not alone.
The Aeaean Spring Breeze - The Witch, Delightful Companions, and a New Adventure 11
So this is the final compass, huh?
Then here's your final reward.
I truly hope it will be of help to you.
No, I take that back.
It's a precious reward. You're going to make it useful, no matter what.
Use all the resources you acquired and move forward with everything you have!
